Description

"Alongside its Western counterpart, fractions of these distinct blocks were bottled separately to highlight their striking contrasts as well as their role in the main Estate blend.  The central block with its more northerly aspect and 4-5 million-year-old deep red volcanic soils, contributes both aromatics, both red and black fruits in a more savoury frame along with more robust yet detailed tannin to the Curly Flat blend." - Winemaker Notes

"‘Central’ is from the Curly Flat’s 1992 estate planting; aka its oldest vines. It’s not bold or dark or heavy, but it sure has a force. There’s a power to this, and it’s born straight from the way this wine’s fruit and tannin combine. It tastes of gravel, chicory, dark cherry and woodsmoke, and it’s sheeted with firm, wide-ranging tannin. It’s fractionally backward, in a good way; it’s assertively dry, likewise. This is both very good, and very much in need of time." - 94+ Points, Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front
