Description
"Picked in the cool of the morning, Chardonnay from three distinct blocks were whole bunch pressed to tank with cloudy juice transferred to barrel the following day. Indigenous yeasts dictated ferment in various formats ranging from 300 and 500 litre barrels. From there barrels were stirred monthly until minimal sulphur was added in late Spring once malolactic ferment (MLF) was complete. Our 2022 Chardonnay has gone through 100% MLF along with 28% new oak with minimal filtration before bottling. Overall we are delighted with 2022 which expresses with wonderful fragrance, nuanced depth, supple yet ample texture brought together with chime of fresh mineral acidity." - Winemaker Notes
"An excellent, medium-bodied expression from a cool La Niña vintage, perfect for whites. Fruit, flare and compression wrapped in a classy interplay of cantaloupe, pralines, hazelnuts and Mirabelle plums. The texture is immaculate, with nothing hard or too soft. Just generous, cool-climate tension promoting exceptional length. Very good. Drinkable now, but best from 2026." - 96 Points, Ned Goodwin MW
"Bright, light yellow-green colour with pencil-wood, oyster shell, citrus-fruit aromas, reserved and still emerging from its shell but has loads of potential. Delicious wine already, especially in the mouth, but will benefit from time to build its bouquet. A beautifully turned-out chardonnay." - 95 Points, Huon Hooke, The Real Review
"This is quite slender, more slender than I usually associate with Curly Flat, though it builds flesh and flavour as it breathes and it will no doubt continue to do so as it matures. It tastes of cedar and nectarine, grapefruit and green apple, custard powder and woodsmoke, with gentle herb-like notes littered throughout. The wine’s grapefruit notes really power on through the finish, which is a good sign, and everything feels well balanced and knitted. Tuck it away awhile and it’ll sing." - 94 Points, Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front
