Description
With overall mild temperatures and good bursts of rain, 2020 turned out to be an excellent one for the Vaira family, thanks to their philosophy of “recipe-free” attention and working with the vintage. Long and slow; in fact, one of the longest in the past decade, allowed for gentle ripening, resulting in beautiful aromatics and freshness balanced with plenty of structure and “seductive appeal” in the words of Antonio Galloni.
Immediate pleasure is the calling-card here. These are some of the most balanced and approachable wines we have seen on release for a good while. Of course with patience, these wines will continue to give further delight, but there is instant appeal and joy that comes from each and every one of these 2020 releases.
"You can’t beat this value. The G.D. Vajra 2020 Barolo Albe is buttoned up with fresh primary fruit, and the wine does not have that hint of over-ripeness that is found across this vintage. The fruit is dark and savory, and there is a big mineral component to match, but the bouquet is nicely redolent of dark currant, plum, granite and a raspy dry note that brings crushed shale to mind. The tannins are quite impactful, and they give this wine extra runway for moderate bottle aging." 94 points. Monica Larner, The Wine Advocate
