Back Vintage Reds from around Australia!

Published by The Wine Emporium on 2nd Jun 2023

It's always fun to explore some of the great wine releases of past years lying within our shelves, even more so when they sit at great prices! To see the week off in style, we present some of our favourite back vintage museum bottles from around Australia, each brought down on special!

2015 Rymill Maturation Release Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon - $39 on offer ; $45 RRP

"This Maturation Release Cabernet Sauvignon is the result of a small quantity of the 2015 vintage cellared at our winery for further maturation in bottle, and only released after careful assessment. Cabernet Sauvignon is Coonawarra’s pre-eminent grape variety. Parcels of premium fruit are selected, fermented and then aged in French oak barrels to produce this full bodied and richly flavoured wine." - Winemaker Notes

2009 St Brioc The Fraternity Shiraz - $54 on offer ; $62 RRP

"Plum, sandalwood, anise, tobacco, leather, warm cassis, blackberry pie, mulberries, long spiced finish. Seaview vineyard, hand-picked from 1 block, 35yo vines, dark sand over red clay, Mediterranean climate. 14 days on-skins, blended in tank, aged in 2-4yo French barrique 11months, malolactic fermentation, fined, unfiltered." - Winemaker Notes

2012 Two Hands Sophie's Garden Padthaway Shiraz - $60 on offer ; $69 RRP

"Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2012 Sophie's Garden Shiraz gives an earthy, meaty nose of loam, tree bark and peppered salami encasing a core of blackcurrant cordial and dried plums. Full-bodied and voluptuously fruited on the palate, a crisp line of acid juxtaposes the densely packed fruit and firm, grainy tannins to good effect. It finishes with very good persistence. Drink it now to 2022+" - Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Wine Advocate, Reviewed April 2014

2016 Two Hands Charlie's Garden Eden Valley Shiraz - $69 on offer ; $78 RRP

"Produced from our finest barrels of Eden Valley Shiraz. Sourced from one of the highest vineyards on top of Menglers Hill, this quintessential Eden Valley Shiraz has a soft bouquet of red fruits and fresh cut flowers with a moderately powerful fruit profile that finishes with an amazing minerality. Acidity is the true key to this wine. The elevation provides acidity retention and slight relief from weather extremes." - Winemaker Notes "The smoky, peppery, meaty aromas of the 2016 Shiraz Charlie's Garden are immediately mouthwatering, leading into a medium to full-bodied wine that's sturdy, savory and appetizing. It's ripe yet firm, perfectly suited to pairing with nearly any red-meat preparation over the next decade." - 92 Points, Joe Czerwinski, Wine Advocate

2016 Hentley Farm The Beast Shiraz$95 on offer ; $109 RRP

// 95 Points - James Halliday

"Rich fruit combines with an array of spices and dark chocolate on this dense nose. Traditional Beast tannins line the front of the palate with Christmas pudding and forest berries through the middle creating layers of luscious fruit and intensity. Spices and chocolate return in the back to provide length that competes with the best vintages of this wine." - Winemaker Notes

2016 Two Hands Yacca Block Single Vineyard Shiraz - $135 on offer ; $155 RRP

"From the cooler Eden Valley, the 2016 Shiraz Yacca Block Mengler Hill Road comes across as a bit tight, crisp and firm. It offers attractive clove and cherry notes on the nose, but it's linear and verging on austere on the palate before finishing on a silky note. It will prove eye-opening for consumers who think that Barossa Shiraz is all fat, alcoholic and overripe, and after a couple of years in the cellar to loosen up, it should drink well for more than a decade." - 93 Points, Joe Czerwinski, Wine Advocate, reviewed September 2018

2001 Jim Barry McRae Wood Shiraz MAGNUM - $208 on offer ; $239 RRP

"The wine is brilliant red to black in color, showing vanillin American oak with a blackberry and spice bouquet. The palate displays good length of fruit with rich blackberry, plums and spice flavors." - Winemaker Notes
