Dalrymple's Latest Pinots & Assorted Whites from Around the World on Show

Dalrymple's Latest Pinots & Assorted Whites from Around the World on Show

Published by The Wine Emporium on 27th Sep 2024

We take on Tasmania, and then the world this weekend, with two great lineups that include new release single vineyard Pinot Noir, bright bubbles, and a whole assortment of unique white varietals!

Later this evening (Friday 27th), we present the latest single site expressions from Dalrymple as well as the new 2023 of their popular estate Pinot Noir! Through the four different bottles, one moves from cool-climate elegance and plush acidity through to bolder dark fruit structure and mouth-coating tannins that linger on and on, particularly with their gorgeous Mt Lord label, grown on a very steep east-facing slope high over Coal River Valley and aged in their best French oak barriques for 10 months, before further cellaring for 18 months. What's more, we have the beloved bubbles from Jansz (both their premium cuvée and rosé) to add an extra sparkle to the Tasmanian theme. Join us from 4:30 to 6:30pm for this one!

And tomorrow (Saturday 28th), we thought to broaden horizons somewhat and look around the world of wine at some of our best picks for unique white varietals and interpretations! From 12 to 2pm, we'll be pouring Hunter Valley semillon, soave, fiano, Stargazer's Tupelo blend, Auslese riesling, grüner veltliner from Austria, the newest Dry White No. 1 from Yarra Yering, Roussanne from Rhône, pinot grigio from Northern Italy, and koshu from Japan! We can't wait to show these all off - if you can't make it in but are tempted by anything, they'll stay on special for the next week.

---

De Iuliis Semillon 2023$19 on special this week; $22 RRP

"The moody Hunter weather threatened, but the rain stopped, the soil allowed harvesters onto the vines – and the quality of this super-expressive lemon, apple and lanolin fruit had its life to live, and transformed itself from chrysalis to resplendent butterfly." - 95 Points, James Halliday (Top 100 Wines of the Year)

Le Battistelle 'Montesei' Soave Classico 2023$30 on special this week; $34 RRP

"This wine comes from a blend of small south-facing vineyards in the Soave Classico area, from vines predominately between 70 & 90 years old. As with all the wines the grapes are farmed on steep terrace vineyards using Pergola’s, the traditional method of farming in Soave Classico. The soil type of the Montesei vineyard sites are a mix of porous volcanic rocks, lined with clay and silt. Pale straw yellow colour, this aromatic wine displays a full range of ripe fruit and white flowers characters. On the palate, the fruity, elegant nuances are stylishly intertwined with a lively minerality. Full of energy and flavour, this is offset by a refreshing acidity to give a balanced finish." -Winemaker Notes

Cantine di Marzo Fiano di Avellino 2022$35 on special this week; $39 RRP

"The wine is pale yellow with light green reflections. To the nose it presents an aromatic pallet beginning with a distinctive note of pear which evolves into banana and exotic fruits. Then a final bouquet of white flowers mainly jasmine and lily emerges. In the mouth an initial taste of almond gives way to the floral nature of this wine. The aroma of white flowers settles around the palate leaving a feeling of freshness and a taste of lime with notes of wild flowers. This wine matches beautifully with sushi, light dishes of white meat in sauce, most Neapolitan dishes including fried vegetables and fishes. Great as an aperitif wine." - Winemaker Notes

Stargazer Tupelo Pinot Gris Riesling Gewürztraminer 2024$35 on special this week; $39 RRP

"The unusual blend mirrors the famous Alsatian 'Gentil' styles marrying the body of Pinot Gris. the exuberance of Pinot Blanc with the spicy aromatics of Gewürztraminer and the finesse of Riesling. Pale yellow in colour with green flecks. the nose is perfumed and lifted showing honeysuckle and jasmine notes with dried pear spiciness and a hint of honeyed beeswax. There is a glossy texture to the palate, with the richness framed by subtle phenolics providing both persistence and length." - Winemaker Notes

Kuhling-Gillot Qvinterra Auslese Riesling 2017$46 on special this week; $52 RRP

With our team having tried this one in mid-2024, it's unfurling beautifully in the bottle and really seems in it's right place now. There is that mouthwatering melt of ripe peach, honeyed tropicals and orange zest one looks for in a classic auslese, but backed up with some chewy phenolic bite and sprinkled spice on the finish. The acid line is still clear and long, but these seven years have certainly softened it nicely, and looks just perfect to pair with a spicy curry or asian stir-fry. What's more, you don't often find aged German riesling at value like this these days! - Our Notes

FX Pichler Loibner Grüner Veltliner 2022$60 on special this week; $68 RRP

"F.X. Pichler Loibner Grüner Veltliner is grown in Loiben (Austria), which covers the area of the cadastral communities Oberloiben and Unterloiben. It is the designation of origin of this Wachau DAC village Grüner Veltliner. The vineyards for F.X. Pichler Loibner Federspiel are situated on the plains of the Loibner basin, with light, warm soils of alluvial Danube sand and gravel. This is where F.X. Pichler grows this delicate Grüner Veltliner with an elegant structure; bright with soft fruit characters." - Winemaker Notes

Yarra Yering Dry White No. 1 2022$62 on special this week; $69 RRP
(New Release!)

// 85% Semillon and 15% Chardonnay

"White pear flesh and grapefruit citrus characteristics from the Semillon, Chardonnay brings some stone fruit flesh and greater middle palate weight and a softness from maturation in neutral oak barrels. A granny smith green apple tang driving the acidity with a lovely chalky texture to finish." - Winemaker Notes

Jean-Baptiste Souillard Roussanne 2021$63 on special this week; $72 RRP

"Seductive and open aromas of yellow plum and nectarine. The palate is a golden nectar, lush and exuberant with creamy lemon curd and macadamia nut complexity, but ultimately finishing dry and poised. Highly enjoyable now, but its concentration will see it through another five to seven years. Fermented with indigenous yeasts and minimal sulphur use. Working with small, individual parcels in the northern Rhône, Jean-Baptiste is one to watch." - 94 Points, Natalie Earl, Decanter (2020 vintage)

Kofererhof Pinot Grigio 2023$67 on special this week; $76 RRP

"Aromas and flavors of salt, pepper, minerals, bright green apples and bitter oranges. Very textured on the palate, with a medium body, a refined and balanced structure and a peaty finish. Drink now." - 94 Points, James Suckling

Grace Koshu Hishiyama Vineyard 2022$78 on special this week; $88 RRP

"Situated at the highest altitude in Katsunuma Town (500m-600m), the Hishiyama area is characterised by complex and diverse soils, including large granite formations scattered throughout the area. This is a region particularly cherished by Kazuo Misawa, the third-generation owner. The wine's lively acidity and smoky minerality faithfully express the characteristics of the region. We put a rain shade on every bunch of grapes. After harvesting by hand, grapes from specific vineyards are selected, followed by fermentation and maturation in stainless steel tanks." - Winemaker Notes

"A slight smokiness, melon rind, nashi pear, green tea perfume. It’s flinty, fine-boned too, offering plenty of crunch and delicate flavours of ripe green apple, lemon peel, and a lovely mouth-perfume that puts me in mind of jasmine green tea, or something along those lines. The finish is precise and long, and gee it’s such a refreshing and interesting wine. It’s not cheap, but it is beautiful. I’m touch and go for 95 points on this 2022. I love it." - 94 Points, Gary Walsh, The Wine Front
