Iconic New Italian Releases on Offer + Tasting!

Published by The Wine Emporium on 11th Oct 2024

This is one of our absolute favourite tastings of the year! On Saturday 12th October (you know the drill - 12 to 2pm or when the bottles run out!), we host Luke Fitzpatrick from Negociants Australia for one epic tasting featuring many of the finest regions in Italy. We begin with three Antinori wines from the terrific 2021 vintage in Tuscany. The quality of the famous Peppoli is at an all-time high in 2021, and represents fine value for money. We also introduce the new vintage of Tenuta Tignanello Chianti Classico Riserva 2021 - the finest vintage of this wine since we had tremendous success with the 2016 a few years. And lastly, the 98 Point Bolgheri Superiore "Guado Al Tasso" 2021 - which stands proudly against Ornellaia, Sassicaia - is also on show and guaranteed to impress! We then deep-dive into the world of Argiano from Montalcino. We begin with their value Rosso di Montalcino, and move to another great vintage in 2019, featuring the Estate Brunello di Montalcino and 97 point single vineyard 2019 Vigna del Suolo! A rare chance to taste this bottling. Lastly, we're thrilled to introduce the wines from newly imported Castello di Neive from Barbaresco. Their fragrant and silky Langhe Nebbiolo is one of the most enjoyable currently on the market, while their communal (also known as estate) Barbaresco bottling is perfectly appointed and beautfully pure. We finish with their single vineyard Barbaresco 'Santo Stefano' - an awesome single vineyard, with tons or personality on show.

Italian Saturday Tasting Lineup + Specials

Saturday 12th October

12 to 2pm

Antinori "Peppoli" Chianti Classico 2021
RRP $40 (10% off in a mixed 6)

Fruit sourced from the 'Peppoli' estate is aged mainly in large Slavonian oak, with some stainless steel maturation too, resulting in a pure and fruit-driven wine, capturing all of the bucolic scents of the Sangiovese grape, and Tuscany itself. - TWE

---

Antinori "Tenuta Tignanello" Chianti Classico Riserva 2021
(Note - this is from the Tignanello estate, and not the eponymous Tignanello also made by Antinori)
On offer for $87; RRP $99

"This is one of the big surprises of this tasting and ultimately represents one of the best buys in the entire extended Marchesi Antinori portfolio... Of course, the wine is more accessible and open compared to Tignanello, and spiritually, this wine is a Chianti Classico. By that I mean that the elegant minerality of these soils and the sunny flavors of its environs are the determining characteristics." - 94+ Points, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate

"The 2021 Bolgheri Superiore Guado al Tasso is a very beautiful wine, but also quite a departure from the style that made it famous years ago. Readers will find an especially polished Guado al Tasso, a wine that emphasizes finesse more than power. Silky tannins wrap around a core of black cherry fruit, licorice, spice, mocha and new leather. Bright, saline undertones extend the exquisite finish. There’s more Cabernet Franc in the blend these days, and that very much comes through in the wine’s crazy aromatic presence and feel. Gorgeous.” 98 Points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous

Argiano Rosso di Montalcino 2021
On offer for $46.50; RRP $53
"The Argiano 2021 Rosso di Montalcino shows raspberry tart and strawberry shortbread on first nose. This is a simple but elegant wine that gives you exactly what you want from a Rosso with an exceptionally easy-drinking style. Aged briefly in cement and large oak casks, there is iris flower, almond and forest berry backed by fine, chalky tannins. This is the spirit of Rosso." - 91 Points, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate

Argiano Brunello di Montalcino 2019
On offer for $139; RRP $159
On offer for $279
per MAGNUM; RRP $320
"Crushed ashen stones, cloves, dried black cherries, rosemary and balsam herbs create a spice box display as the 2019 Brunello di Montalcino blossoms in the glass. This is surprisingly fresh and energetic, nearly juicy in character, yet refined and focused, with silken textures ushering in crisp wild berry fruits and orange tones that slowly saturate the palate. It finishes spicy and long, yet its energy never wavers, with grippy tannins that tug at the cheeks as licorice and cranberry notes fade." - 94 Points, Eric Guido, Vinous

Argiano Brunello di Montalcino "Vigna del Suolo" 2019
On offer for $432; RRP $495

Vigna del Suolo is the oldest planted vineyard on the Argiano estate, and is made and bottled as a single vineyard wine. Click HERE to view a terrific short video produced by Argiano showing how the soils of the region were created, along with an overview of the terroir of Montalcino.
"An elegant, ever-changing bouquet with black fruits and a pronounced mineral signature of dusty slate and crushed stone. With 63-year-old vines, this site is located along the picturesque, cypress-lined dirt road that leads to this imposing castello (one of the greatest architectural works in Italian wine). The bouquet fleshes out to show tobacco leaf, linden tree, balsam herb, exotic spice and an especially fresh quality of berry fruit that sits somewhere on the cusp of over-ripeness. The fruit tastes sweet but in a delicately measured way, and the tannins are elegant with dryness that is not overdone. This is a very pretty wine." - 97 Points, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate
---

Castello di Neive Langhe Nebbiolo 2022
On offer for $75; RRP $85

We think Castello di Neive's Langhe Nebbiolo is not only a great wine, its also one of the best and most enjoyable Langhe Nebbiolo on the market currently. It faithfully represents the terroir of Barbaresco, but due to its short and uncomplicated elevage the wine showcases the utterly gorgeous rosey floral notes and red fruits of Nebbiolo. To enjoy young. TWE

---

Castello di Neive Barbaresco 2020
On offer for $119; RRP $135

"The 2020 Barbaresco is a very pretty, classy wine. Crushed flowers, bright red- toned fruit, tobacco, cedar and mint are some of the notes that waft from the glass in this attractive, mid-weight Barbaresco. I would give this a bit of air to help the bouquet come together. It's a lovely wine from Castello di Neive, and absolutely stellar in its peer group."92 Points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous

---

Castello di Neive Barbaresco "Santo Stefano" 2020
On offer for $170; RRP $195

The 2020 Barbaresco Albesani Santo Stefano marries elegance and power, capturing everything this site has to offer. Bright acids and bundles of tannins bring energy to this medium-weight, super-expressive Barbaresco. Crushed red berries, flowers, spices, incense and blood orange are all finely delineated in a classy Barbaresco that hits the mark." - 95 Points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous
