Description

"The majority of the fruit is taken from 1950’s plantings across different soil types.  Each area is fermented and matured separately before blending just prior to bottling.  The fruit spends close to a month on skins before pressing into French oak.  65 % of the wine was matured in large format French oak vessels. Deep and hedonistic. Licorice. Some blue fruit highlights, Christmas cake spice. Black Pepper, cloves and fresh turned earth.    Complex and brooding on the nose. A satiated, inky and mouthwatering palate. Ripe fruits, but still moreish with a degree of composure. Supple and a velvet mid palate followed by a crisp tannin finish." - Winemaker Notes

"Such a gorgeous and pleasurable red in its more loose knit and overtly ripe spectrum. It’s ripe plum and forest berry compote with aniseed, choc-mint biscuit, soft salted liquorice and touches of dried cranberry, figs and hazelnut. Lush and lovely in the palate, very soft and supple, a lick of shapely tannin in a velvety rub across the wine, a long trail of sweet spice and that compote richness lingers if not stains the palate. Come hither stuff. Done well, balanced well, just a bit more XL than expected." - 93 Points, Mike Bennie, The Wine Front
