Description
Aged primarily in older American and French oak, unlike most entry level wines which are aged in tank with oak ‘alternatives’. Bottled earlier than the other Tim Smith Shiraz wines to provide a wine that is fruit forward, with the older oak providing a countering oak tannin balance to the palate.
Detailed and layered aromas. Smoked meat, earth, black pepper, violets, leather and sweet spice. A mix of black fruits but they stay in the background, more like a black tea with blackberry syrup. This forms the base for all the spicy-floral, savoury-sweet notes to shine on top. Tannins are dusty and chocolatey. It’s a savoury medium-bodied wine, but the flavours are quite intense. It has a cool, iron/blood-like aftertaste. Very good and a bargain too. - 92 Points, winefront.com
