After nearly a decade of ageing, a select parcel was transferred into Château Montrose red wine casks—so rare that only a handful could be sourced from the celebrated Saint-Estèphe appellation of Bordeaux. The wine’s famously intense hue endures, echoed in the rich colour of this whisky’s case.
Intrigued by the soft red-fruit character these casks might impart, Dr Bill embarked on a finish never attempted before or since at Glenmorangie. Thirteen years later, the whisky revealed extraordinary berried depths. To elevate this singular profile, he devised a complex marriage of casks: bourbon-aged whisky to lift Glenmorangie’s hallmark citrus notes; long-finished oloroso sherry casks to layer sweetness and spice; and a judicious selection of secret casks to complete the composition.
Aged for 23 years, Glenmorangie Grand Vintage Malt 1997 brims with red fruits and candied sweetness.
