Duo on Special + Taittinger/Roederer Combined Saturday Tasting!

Published by The Wine Emporium on 1st Nov 2023

For Champagne Monday today, we present two brilliant bubblies from Taittinger (Brut Reserve + Prestige Rosé) as well as announce our combined double tasting lineup for this Saturday's Taittinger/Roederer focus! Both these Taittinger bottles are sitting at remarkable value for the quality on show, especially their sumptuous Rosé at $95 for this week only, so there will be no better time to grab hold of them than now for fans of the vibrant Taittinger style!

We have plenty of great Champagne tastings in store for you all too in the coming weeks leading all the way up until Christmas, kicking off with this weekend with some magnificent bottles from these legendary houses, including Comtes de Champagne 2012 and Cristal 2015! Come join in and step out of the sun from 12 to 2pm (we recommend arriving as near to the start as possible to avoid missing out, since we'll only have one bottle of each available), and enjoy each these beauties with us!

Taittinger Brut Reserve NV - $85 on special this week ; $99 RRP

// 50% Chardonnay, 25% Pinot Noir and 25% Pinot Meunier

Dosage: 9gr/l

Disgorged 2022

"This is soft, succulent & delightfully structured champagne with a nose of Asiatic lilies, yellow iris & white Hawthorn hedge flowers. The palate opens up to raspberries, new season strawberries, lemon, tangelo, honeydew melon, pink grapefruit and pears. There is layer of apple jam on fresh sour dough bread sprinkled with cinnamon & hints of apple strudel with the flaked pastry – followed by honeyed nuts, glazed peaches, new season apricot and mandarin & little flicks of pineapple. A fresh & lively champagne with a lovely layer of chardonnay which sings of lightness & style." - Bernadette O'Shea, Champagne Consultant

"A dry and fresh and delicious Taittinger with aromas and flavors of apples, fresh lemons and minerals. Full-bodied. Precise. White pepper and salt at the end. Three to four years on the lees. Drink now." - 92 Points, James Suckling

Taittinger Prestige Brut Rosé NV - $95 on special this week ; $130 RRP

// 75% Pinot Noir & Meunier and 30% Chardonnay

Dosage: 9gr/l

"Taittinger Prestige Rosé immediately stands out for its intense, shimmering hue whose secret lies in the fact that it is a blend, which is more complex and costly to produce. A quantity of still red wine (15%) produced from the best Pinot Noirs from Montagne de Reims and Les Riceys is in fact added to the final blend, to give this cuvée its unmistakable colour and vibrant intensity on the palate. The high proportion of Chardonnay (30%) that completes the blend brings the elegance and delicacy that underpin Taittinger’s signature style. The intense and brilliant body is bright pink in colour. The bubbles are fine, and the mousse persistent.The full nose, wonderfully expressive, is both fresh and young. It gives off aromas of red fruits (freshly crushed wild raspberry, cherry, blackcurrant). On the palate, this wine strikes a fine balance of a velvet texture and full body taste. The flavours are reminiscent of fresh, crisp red fruits. The palate can be summed up in four words: lively, fruity, fresh and elegant, as only a rosé blend can be." - House Notes

Famous house Taittinger is known as a chardonnay-dominant Champagne producer, but to me, this delicious wine makes more of a pinot noir statement. It starts with the colour, a rather deeper salmon-pink than the very pale hue that’s currently fashionable. It smells of strawberry shortcake, crême pat and finely-integrated yeasty and smoky complexities, a great mix of pinot freshness and Champagne maturity. With fine texture, good depth and substance, this is flavoursome yet elegant, finishing with just enough phenolic firmness for balance. A Champagne for food" - 95 Points, Ralph Kyte-Powell, The Real Review
