Isole e Olena & Tua Rita

Published by The Wine Emporium on 28th Jun 2022

Tuscany is not only home to the greatest expression of Sangiovese ever, but the region also hosts some spectacular 'international' varietals producers, and this week we are positively thrilled to offer you the best of both worlds! First up we have the superlative Sangiovese offerings of Isole e Olena (including the famous Cepparello!), followed by the masterful Cabernet blends of Tua Rita. No matter if you prefer Sangiovese on its own or in a cheeky little Cabernet blend - both these iconic producers are bound to impress you in their youth, but will truly wow you with a bit of age. All the details below!

Please note the Cepparello is arriving mid-July 2022, but the others are available for immediate delivery.

- ISOLE e OLENA -

2019 Chianti Classico - $45 per bottle ; $52 RRP

"From what is shaping up to be a terrific vintage in Tuscany, the 2019 Isole e Olena is deep, structured and classic. This is the fullest Chianti Classico we recall tasting from this producer, making it remarkably delicious even in this early stage." - Brent Williamson, The Wine Emporium

2018 Cepparello - $179 per bottle ; $205 RRP OR $395 per magnum ; $460 RRP

- ARRIVAL MID JULY 2022 -

"A pure expression of Sangiovese, the 2018 Cepparello is a beautiful expression that speaks to the classic and most exemplary side of this versatile and deeply expressive grape. This vintage is especially bright and ethereal with a true sense of luminosity and clarity that radiates from both the wine's appearance and its fragrant bouquet. Tart cherry and cassis segue to balsam herb and wild violets. To the palate, the wine shows muscle and determination with sweet tannins and impressive depth of favor. Cepparello remains true to its unique identity in this vintage." - 96 Points, Monica Larner, The Wine Advocate

- TUA RITA -

2019 Rosso dei Notri - $52 per bottle ; $59 RRP

"The youthful, flashy exuberance of this wine is impossible to miss. The Tua Rita 2019 Rosso dei Notri offers pronounced primary fruit that bursts out of the glass with immediate directness and frankness. This is a blend of 30% Sangiovese, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Syrah and 20% Merlot. Although it's not declared, there's a tiny touch of Cabernet Franc in there as well that grounds the wine with an extra point of darkness and richness. Most of the blending components do not see oak, but those that do (like the Merlot) go through a brief three months in declassified barrique (hand-downs from Tua Rita's top wines). This estate practices a clever pre-harvest harvest. Some of the fruit from across the various parcels is harvested about 10 days earlier. That fruit, with its extra freshness and acidic brightness, goes into this wine. Indeed, some 150,000 bottles are produced, so this is the bread-and-butter bottle from the estate. The best clusters are left on the vines to mature fully before the second harvest, and that fruit goes into Tua Rita's benchmarks." - 91+ Points, Monica Larner, The Wine Advocate

2019 Giusto di Notri- $209 per bottle ; $240 RRP

"In a sense, this wine is like the Bosco dei Sugheri but with the addition of one more grape variety in the blend. The Tua Rita 2019 Giusto di Notri is 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Cabernet Franc and 8% Merlot. I tasted the wine shortly after it had been bottled. With 40,000 bottles made, it should start hitting the market now. The Giusto di Notri offers lots of dark primary fruit with important structure and texture in this classic vintage. Blackberry and black plum cede to spice, tar and campfire ash. There's nothing not to like in this vintage that far exceeded initial expectations. I look forward to tasting more Tuscan reds from the excellent 2019 growing season." - 97 Points, Monica Larner, The Wine Advocate
