Description

"95% Gamay from Beaujolais and Beaujolais Villages combined with 5% Gamaret, grown on granitic soil. The latter, a little-known variety created in the 1990s by crossing Gamay with Reichensteiner, had hopes of being authorized for production in Beaujolais, but this never happened. Consequently, there are plots of these vines growing in obscure villages in the region and occasionally, as in this case, it is blended with Gamay to make a plump, darker, and some would say more fun wine to be enjoyed without fuss with the hearty fare served locally. The wine is aged in concrete tank, and there is an alliance between the Gamay and Gamaret which reflects the fruit and greedy character of the Gamay and the denser, deeper character of the Gamaret. The wine is in fact plump and delicious pairing beautifully with seasonal vegetables, pissaladière, goat cheese and tiramisu with raspberries." - Winemaker Notes
