Description / Reviews

"The season started in October with regular rainfall then finished with a dry March which gave the vines a good start for growth and a perfect finish for ripening. 2023 vintage followed a warm summer, rainfall was average, and the ripening period was dry. The autumn season resulted in a soft supple wine which is already smooth to drink but another two years will see the oak integrate to give greater finesse and complexity. My objective is to present the highly aromatic qualities of the pinot noir grown at Apogee — aromatic red cherry liqueur and raspberry: without excessive oak intrusion. The key structural component of the palate is natural, cool-climate acidity supported with soft grape tannins. Traditional Burgundian methods are employed including cold-soak, wild yeast, and aging in French oak barriques." - Winemaker Notes

"An earthy, purely formed pinot noir showing appealing gamey complexity and ripe red cherry, dried cranberry, wild strawberry and raspberry fruits. Hints of exotic spice, hoisin, Peking duck, shoyu, roast game, sous bois, dried citrus rind and shiitake. The wild strawberry ramps up on the palate, a little more concentration than the 2022 but that umami ache, purity, gorgeous swell of fruit and length of flavour remain. Great drinking." - 95 Points, Dave Brookes, Halliday Wine Companion

"A discreet yet poised nose of raspberries, pomegranate, red currants, black cherries, vanilla, musk, blood plums, and poppy seeds. The fruit shines through on the palate as if it were squeezed by hand; it has a velvety texture, slippery acidity, precision and elegance, and a reserved palate end and length." - 95 Points, Lisa Cardelli, Wine Pilot
