We're excited to bring a New Zealand icon and two great Australian names to the centre stage this weekend, in the form of a first whisky tasting of the year on Friday, and a combined wine tasting on Saturday!
For all followers and fanatics of the great whisky work being that continues to unfurl down in Tasmania, we have four single malts from the great team from Hellyers Road pouring tomorrow (Friday 27th) from 4 to 7pm! This will include their Double Cask, 7 Year Peated, 'Journeyman' 8 Year Old, and 10 Year Old Oloroso de Jerez Sherry Cask - all down on special for the coming week!
Saturday (28th) then sweeps in two new single vineyard releases from Adelaide Hill's icon Shaw + Smith in the savoury and sophisticated Lenswood Vineyard Chardonnay and black-fruited powerhouse Balhannah Vineyard Shiraz. We've never been more impressed by these two releases than we have this year, and the complex intensity shown across both will prove a fine pairing against the elegance and perfume on display with Felton Road! We've got their racy Bannockburn whites on show in their Riesling and Chardonnay, alongside their latest Pinot Noir pieces with the Calvert, MacMuir and Block 5 labels! This will run at our usual 12 to 2pm; we hope this is a tempting one!

$40 on special this week ($46 RRP)

"This off-dry expression is utterly delicious, aromas and flavours of lime and makrut leaves, very floral, sweet lemon and red apple flesh. The acidity is high delivering a taut contrast to the residual sweetness, a wine in balance from the first taste to the last with flavours of white fleshed pomaceous fruits, citrus skin and peel, flowers, makrut leaves and mineral. Refreshing, lively and what Riesling is all about - instant pleasure, freshness, length and the desire to want more." - 94 Points, Cam Douglas MS

Felton Road Bannockburn Chardonnay 2024 -
$67 on special this week ($75 RRP)
*Limited availability
"Subtle and restrained chardonnay with a complex amalgam of flavours: cloudy apple juice, savoury herb, sourdough and vanilla rice pudding. With air, the nose unfurls and expands upwards but the palate remains zingy and fresh with vibrant fruit edged in subtle oak. Long and linear as it builds towards the finish, this is a classsy chardonnay with good depth in reserve and will reward a few years of cellaring." - 95 Points, Stephen Wong MW, The Real Review

`Shaw + Smith Lenswood Vineyard Chardonnay 2024 -
Available for $99
(10% in any six wine purchase)
*New release!
"A magic moment kind of wine. Scintillating acidity, a gentle, savoury underbelly, crisp stone fruit and green apple characters, a distinct weave of saline minerality with touches of fino sherry and preserved lemon freshness. Add in nougat and ginger snap biscuit, but all of that with an immense sense of fruit purity, too. Savoury, serious, vivid and refreshing in the same breath. A tour de force of chardonnay. Brilliant." - 97 Points, Mike Bennie, Halliday Wine Companion
"This is as fine as they come. It’s a simply fabulous chardonnay. It blends flavour with sophistication with finesse with flair. It tastes of juicy pear, white peach, mineral, cream, tonic water and smoked cedar, though every nuance comes stitched as one. The length on this beauty. The exquisite composure. If you’re a lover of chardonnay this wine is enough to make you want to renew your vows to this most beautiful of grape varieties." - 96 Points, Campbell Mattinson

Shaw + Smith Balhannah Vineyard Shiraz 2023 -
Available for $99
(10% in any six wine purchase)
*New release!
"This is a wine of power and darkness and yet it remains elegant and, indeed, exquisite. It tastes of walnuts and plums, smoked meats, barbecued black cherries, cedar, dark soy, peppercorn and cocoa, and while there’s a boldness in play all these flavours are relayed in intimate, interwoven detail. There’s a logic to everything here; a motivation to the way each flavour bounces from one to the next. This impression is aided by the svelte, luxury nature of the texture. This is an elite wine. It’s complex, it’s seductive, and it’s compelling." - 96 Points, Campbell Mattinson
"Blackberry, plum, grilled meat, a char siu pork thing here, plenty of spice and pepper, brazil nuts, dried flowers. It’s medium-bodied, distinctly saline and savoury, black olive rolled in dried herbs, meaty too, has a mix of red and black fruits, a grainy sort of sooty feel to tannin, a boysenberry freshness to acidity, with a nutty and spicy finish of excellent length, pulling quite dry and grainy to close, with a light amaro bitterness and subtle rubbery reduction. A very adult style of Shiraz, also quite charismatic with it. Very good." - 95 Points, Gary Walsh, The Wine Front

Felton Road 'Calvert' Pinot Noir 2024 -
$99 on special this week ($110 RRP)
"Perfumed and expressive with chalky tannins and a bony structure which provides elegance and restraint on the palate. Red and black berry fruit at the core, flanked by some savoury, dried plum notes on one side and fresh wild thyme on the other. Light to mid-weight in style, a bit of warm spice at the back but lacy and long." - 95 Points, Stephen Wong MW, The Real Review

Felton Road 'MacMuir' Pinot Noir 2024 -
$110 on special this week ($125 RRP)
"Plush with masses of fruit ranging from blueberry and black cherry to blackberry and olive. This is full-bodied with mouth-coating tannins and a generous, forward intensity. Decadent pinot noir with well-judged oak, the palate is dense and compact at present. Give it a few years to reveal more complexity and definition: there is certainly more than enough fruit to justify cellaring." - 95 Points, Stephen Wong MW, The Real Review

Felton Road 'Block 5' Pinot Noir 2024 -
$134 on special this week ($149 RRP)
"Dark cherry and black raspberry lead to more brooding but very concentrated flavours of violet, coffee, cocoa and earthy minerality on the firmly structured and muscular palate. Currently closed and inward but with great length, this is clearly very serious with plenty of substance but it will need time to unclench and relax." - 97 Points, Stephen Wong MW, The Real Review
"Fabulous bouquet and palate, a wine that speaks of site first then layers of ripe red berry fruits from boysenberry to black cherry and heirloom Doris plum. A distinctive savoury wild dried herb and thyme qualities add complexity and foundation. Taut and dry with firm tannins and a backbone of acidity, together framing the fruit flavours that mirror the bouquet. Lengthy and rather delicious, a wine that needs cellar time with best drinking from 2028 through 2036+" - 96 Points, Cam Douglas MS
