We're thrilled to offer the 2019 Domaine Faiveley white and red Burgundy wines on pre-arrival. As you will see from the commentary below 2019 is shaping up to be a truly great Burgundy vintage!
There are so many aspects we love about what Faiveley are doing. Not only is the quality very high and consistent across the range, the pricing is excellent and very fair, considering these are the great vineyards for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir in the world! The wines are also available in Australia in relatively good quantities, meaning you can order in case-lots if you wish - this is always recommended for those wanting to watch their favourite vineyards evolve in the cellar.
- WHAT THE CRITICS ARE SAYING -
Allen Meadows, BurgHound
2019 is potentially a grand vintage as it has everything it needs to be so described. As long-time subscribers know, I rarely use that adjective because most vintages are somewhere between average and excellent, but few are necessarily great, or even grand.
William Kelley, Robert Parker's The Wine Advocate
This is a thrilling year for Pinot Noir, delivering wines bursting with head-turning perfume and fresh, succulent fruit...Supple and enveloping, they are simultaneously serious and immensely charming. In Chardonnay... the year’s best white Burgundies are as incisive as they are powerful, with bright acidity to balance their undeniable weight, and attentive producers excelled. In short, 2019 is a superb vintage, and these are wines that all Burgundy lovers are going to want to secure for their cellars.

OUR PICKS OF THE RANGE
Our Burgundy buyer Brent Williamson has comprehensive experience with Burgundy white and red wine, having been lucky enough to visit the region's greatest producers on two occasions, tasting at Domaine Faiveley both times. Out of such a strong portfolio it is hard to pick just a few highlights, however please find below some of Brent's favourite wines from Domaine Faiveley...
2019 Domaine Faiveley Beaune 'Clos de l'Ecu' 1er Cru - $125 per bottle ; RRP $145
"As the price of Burgundy rises its becoming increasingly more important to find great value in the market. The Clos l'Ecu is a versatile, tasty and rounded wine with plenty of personality you should expect from a 1er. As is the case with wines from Beaune, this will repay ageing effortlessly." - TWE
"Aromas of plums, rich forest floor, warm spices and smoked meats introduce the 2019 Beaune 1er Cru Clos de l'Écu Monopole; a medium-bodied, bright and elegant wine that's satiny and melting, with lively acids and fine, powdery tannins. This is as fine a rendition of the Clos de l'Écu as I can remember tasting." - 91-93 Points William Kelley, The Wine Advocate
2019 Domaine Faiveley Chambolle Musigny 'Les Charmes' 1er Cru - $259 per bottle ; RRP $300
"Faiveley's Chambolle Musigny “Les Charmes” 1er Cru is quintessential Chambolle Musigny with a rich and sweet-smelling aromatic register and a silky, tender palate. Red and blue berry fruits, plum and exquisite perfume define this deftly balanced bottling, while a gentle mineralité keeps the package grounded and guided. In the market it is truly difficult to find desirable 1er Cru Chambolle Musigny of note especially at a price like this from a great vintage." – TWE
2019 Domaine Faiveley Nuits St. Georges 'Les Damodes' 1er Cru - $196 per bottle ; RRP $230
"A really good value play for a Cote de Nuits 1er Cru in a great vintage. The proximity of Damodes to the village of Vosne Romanee is evidenced by a more well-mannered structure than is typical in the southern Nuits St Georges." - TWE
"Aromas of cassis, plums, orange rind and spicy new oak preface Faiveley's 2019 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Damodes, a medium to full-bodied, deep and lively wine with a concentrated core of fruit, framed by powdery tannins. Concluding with a long, mineral finish, it's another fine bottling from this cool, high-altitude and northeast-exposed site." - 92-94 Points, William Kelley, The Wine Advocate
2019 Domaine Faiveley Gevrey Chambertin 'Les Cazetiers' 1er Cru - $269 per bottle ; RRP $310
"Faiveley's 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Cazetiers is very promising indeed, mingling aromas of smoky berry fruit and plums with hints of rose hip, orange peel, musk and spices. Medium to full-bodied, layered and multidimensional, it's concentrated and vibrant, with velvety tannins, lively acids and a long, perfumed finish." - 93-95 points, William Kelley, The Wine Advocate
"...superbly concentrated and gorgeously textured big-bodied, powerful and muscular flavors that flash a mix of minerality and salinity on the wonderfully complex and highly persistent finish where the only nit is a slight warmth. This is potentially outstanding and a wine that should age effortlessly." - 92-94 Points Allen Meadows, BurgHound
2019 Domaine Faiveley 'Clos des Cortons' Grand Cru (Monopole) -$449 per bottle ; RRP $520
"The Grand Cru slopes on the hill of Corton in the Cotes de Beaune offer a Burgundy collector a great deal of upside potential when the wines may be left to cellar, the wines exposing much greater harmony and complexity when older. Faiveley's Corton vineyard lies within the great Rognet climat and is amply powerful and structured. When tasting from barrel at the Faiveley cellars, this is always the ultimate wine of that session, even after their great Mazis and Clos de Beze cuvée." - TWE
"The 2019 Corton Grand Cru Clos des Cortons Faiveley opens in the glass with notes of cassis, wild berries, warm spices, orange rind, rose petals, espresso roast and sweet soil tones. Medium to full-bodied, deep and layered, it's vibrant and lively, marrying notable concentration with fine-boned structure. Long and mineral..." - 93-95 points, William Kelley, The Wine Advocate
"...The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and harmonious on the entry. The fine, lightly spiced finish reveals clove and touches of graphite. Nice persistence here. This holds a lot of promise." - 93-95 points, Neal Martin, Vinous
"There is excellent verve to the broad-shouldered and muscular flavors that possess outstanding complexity on the tannic, serious and beautifully long finish that is a bit less austere than it usually is at this early juncture. This beautifully well-made effort will also require extended bottle age to reveal its full potential, but it should very much be worth the wait." - 93-95 Points, Allen Meadows, BurgHound
2019 Domaine Faiveley 'Latricières Chambertin' Grand Cru - $489 per bottle ; RRP $550
"In its soil the Latricieres Chambertin shares, along with the great Grand Cru of Chambertin and Clos de Beze, a band of Argillaceous limestone that I feel must contribute to the wines elegance and lucid mineralité. This is always a perfectly balanced, complex, and long-lasting cuvee. This is a benchmark wine for Faiveley and I cannot recommend it more highly." - TWE
"There is a distinctly cool quality to the restrained, ultra-fresh and airy aromas of red currant, raspberry, earth and whiffs of spice and the sauvage. The rich and beautifully delineated middle weight flavors possess superb focus along with an abundance of minerality that seems to build on the complex, refined and highly persistent finish. This classy and harmonious effort should amply repay extended cellaring." - 93-95 Points, Allen Meadows, BurgHound
"...this is a superb Latricières from Faiveley, though it will need cellaring." - 94-96 Points, Neal Martin, Vinous
"One of the finest cuvées in the portfolio is once again the 2019 Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru, a medium to full-bodied, deep and layered wine of unerring precision. Vibrant and multidimensional, it evokes aromas of dark berries, rose hip, bergamot, spices and black truffle. This will be worth a special effort to seek out." - 94-96 Points, William Kelley, The Wine Advocate
2019 Domaine Faiveley Meursault 'Blagny' 1er Cru - $156 per bottle ; RRP $180
"We tried to turn the 2017 version of this into our house wine but it sold so quickly after those who tasted it came back for more! This is a lovely, succulent and versatile white Burgundy with fine depth and complexity." - TWE
"Notes of smoky orchard fruit, white flowers and citrus oil introduce the 2019 Meursault 1er Cru Blagny (Maison), a medium to full-bodied, satiny and enveloping wine that's lively and mineral. This will offer a broad drinking window." - 91 Points, William Kelley, The Wine Advocate
2019 Domaine Faiveley Puligny Montrachet 'Champ Gain' 1er Cru - $196 per bottle ; RRP $230
"The Champ Gain 1er Cru is located toward the top of the slope in Puligny on poorer soil, lending the wine a taut mineralité to accompany the gorgeous fruit found in a Faiveley white." - TWE
"The 2019 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Champ Gain is showing very nicely, offering up aromas of citrus oil, pear and fresh apricot, complemented by hints of pastry cream and warm bread. Medium to full-bodied, bright and fleshy, with lively acids and an ample core of fruit, it concludes with a precise, mineral finish.” - 92-94 Points, William Kelley, The Wine Advocate
THE FULL RANGE
Red Burgundy (Pinot Noir)
There's a lot to like here. The small Volnay Fremiets cuvee is an excellent wine showing the typical elegance of this beautiful vintage, while the Les St George is always strong and the best value bottling on the market for this iconic Cru. Lavaut St Jacques seems to have really excelled in the recent warmer vintages too, while the Domaine's Mazis Chambertin is an excellent choice for a robust Grand Cru as a foil to the elegance of the Latricieres above.

While Faiveley's red program receives the most attention from collectors, it is important to remember how good their white wines are! As a range, they are delicious, versatile and faithful to their terroir, and like the reds, excellent value for their respective appellations. We adore the Referts and Batard here.
