A Pinot Noir Spectacle - Specials & Saturday Tasting

Published by The Wine Emporium on 1st Aug 2024

From the dark fruit and bold tannin profiles of last week's Shiraz tasting, we now move to the other side of the spectrum, treating you all this weekend to a stack of pristine Pinot Noir picks, including releases coming out of Tasmania, Adelaide Hills, Macedon Ranges, Yarra Valley, and even a back-vintage Premier Cru Burgundy!

Be sure to come by this Saturday (3rd August) between 12 to 2pm, and have a taste of the latest vintages from Curly Flat, Marco Lubiana (which arrived this week), Serrat, The Wanderer, Strelley (Gold Winner at the latest Royal Queensland Wine Show), a single vineyard Ghost Rock, Murdoch Hill's 98-point 'Apollo', and the delicious Kelly's Reserve from Home Hill. After that journey through Australia, we'll finish off with the powerful Bouchard 2015 Premier Cru from Pommard (the heart of the Cǒte de Beaune)

All wines on special for the next week!

Pinot Noir Specials + Tasting

(Saturday 3rd August, from 12 to 2pm)

---

Strelley Farm Tasmania Pinot Noir 2023 -

$29 on special this week; $33 RRP

// Gold Winner at the Royal Queensland Awards 2024!

"Light garnet colour, with perfumed aromas of ripe plum, raspberry and dark cherry supported by subtle oak spice. On the palate, bright and juicy red fruit flavours upfront are underscored by a dense core of dark cherry and supple oak tannin. Exceptional drinking over the next five to seven years." - Winemaker Notes

Serrat 'Autres Terres' Nenagh Park Pinot Noir 2023

$49 on special this week; $55 RRP

"This is the second release from the Nenagh Park Vineyard, MV6, Pommard and 667 clones are all present in the is wine. The cool easy facing vineyard on the Christmas Hills range again performed so well in the cool 23 vintage. The wine is quite lifted and floral loads of red fruits and noticeable strawberry/cherry lift, the florals are there and it is an enticing and pure aroma, with more depth and complexity as the wines opens up. It seems to me to be more complex than the '22. The palate is rounded and silky with real depth and intensity. A spicy cherry and floral fragrance persist and the length is impressive." - Winemaker Notes

Marco Lubiana Derwent Valley Pinot Noir 2023

$53 on special this week; $59 RRP

"2023 Pinot Noir is a blend of barrels, the fruit comes off the Stefano Lubiana Granton Estate Vineyard with 20% of the fruit coming off the Close Planted Vineyard (high up on the western side of the estate planted in 2019 1.3HA). The Close Planted block I grow on my own and this is the first vintage I am using the fruit. The remaining 80% is from older estate vines, off both soil types (clay and gravel). There is a lower level of whole bunch (30%) due to the year. 1 full year in 228L barrels. Bottled onsite unfiltered. From certified biodynamic vineyards. Compared to the 2022, the 2023 is more drinkable on release, tannins are smoother and the fruit is more fresh and crunchy but with intensity." - Winemaker Notes

The Wanderer 'Upper Yarra' Pinot Noir 2023

$53 on special this week; $60 RRP

Despite the very low yields, 2023 is another lovely vintage in Yarra Valley. Following on from the cool 2021 and 2022 harvests, 2023 is similarly natured with gorgeous natural acidities and beautiful fruit purity and intensity. Fans of the Wanderer style will love this new vintage, which is youthfully bright and so well-balanced - Our Notes

Ghost Rock Bonadale Pinot Noir 2023

$55 on special this week; $62 RRP

"Intensely concentrated nose, juicy blood plum, raspberry cane, dried rose, muddled strawberry, and a slight creamy lees character. Softly textured palate with generous mouthfeel and a creamy texture. Planted in 2010, the Bonadale Vineyard is our highest and most sun-exposed site. Despite its sun exposure, the ripening season in this vineyard is elongated due to the consistent presence of cooling ocean breezes. Broadly speaking, this manifests fruit of elegance, sophistication and structure." - Winemaker Notes

Curly Flat Macedon Ranges Pinot Noir 2022

$70 on special this week; $78 RRP

"I like the stringiness of this, the tension, the fruit, the length. It’s real pinot. It feels as though it’s desperate to rush forward but it holds itself back until it gets to the finish, where it runs. It has a minerally aspect, a sour ripeness, a thread of woodsmoke, a garni of herbs. It will cellar beautifully. It’s cool, ripe, savoury, seamless & long." - 95 Points, Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front

Murdoch Hill 'Apollo' Pinot Noir 2022

$78 on special this week; $89 RRP

"The wine is called Apollo, and when you taste it, it takes you to the stars. This wine is so good, and so distinct, that it's tempting to say that it redefines what is possible with pinot noir and the Adelaide Hills. It's complex. It's structured. It's Italianate. It's varietal. And it's itself. It brings smoked, ripe, berried fruit to the table and then layers woodsy herbs, gunmetal, twigs and peppers throughout. It's a big statement in measured, precise voice. Wow. Seriously. Wow." – 98 Points, Campbell Mattinson, Halliday Wine Companion

Home Hill 'Kelly's Reserve' Pinot Noir 2021

$97 on special this week; $110 RRP

"Vibrant, dark red, youthful and bright in the glass. Lifted and aromatic, dark cherry, dried herbs, Asian spice, sap and nutmeg oak, really complex and inviting. Full flavoured, fleshy and opulent, with dark cherry, blueberry, spice, sap flavours and some pretty classy French oak is at play. Silken, shapely tannins and lively, bright acidity bring it all home. A big boned wine that will evolve nicely in the cellar." - 95 Points, Aaron Brasher, The Real Review

Bouchard Pommard 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2015

$180 on special this week; $205 RRP

The great 2015 Burgundy vintage was fervently received by our customers when it was first released in 2017. A warm vintage, the wines are healthy, rich and gorgeously balanced. They always promised great things in the cellar, so when we found out Bouchard re-released some more 2015 out of their museum program we didn’t hesitate. The 2015 Bouchard Pommard is in its adolescent phase - transitioning into a mature wine - so while we can see some of the secondary characters coming through, we still have plenty of fruit on offer. The palate is rich and supple, with forest floor notes coming through on the finish - Our Notes
