One of our very favourite (and most warmly received) events we've ever put on is an evening with the wines of Albino Rocca, hosted by Daniela Rocca from the estate back in early 2024! To this day, we still speak with those who attended, and hear of their adoration for what was on display over that night. We're thrilled today to report that Daniela will be back in town, and have organised her to host a special one-off masterclass for us at our Education Centre!
The conversation around Nebbiolo is continually evolving - as is the way its Piedmontese creators view and treat it. Even in the two years since we lasted saw Daniela, the trends have drifted even further away from the high extraction and heavy oak usage that was the norm in the region for so many years. Techniques that highlight terroir and nuance are now embraced by many producers across Piedmont - these days, one can open a bottle of new vintage Nebbiolo right away without guilt, and see much of its charm and fruit structure immediately. This shifting focus on approachability and adapting to suit the modern climate and demands will be one of the primary focal points when Daniela joins us come the 20th of March!
Their wines are looking as forward and precise as ever; the evening will include brackets consisting of fresh and youthful entry-options like their Dolcetto, Barbera and what is always our personal favourite Cortese out of the whole region, before we delve into their multiple Nebbiolo labels, including six singular Barbaresco expressions!
