Ministry of Clouds have long proven themselves as one of McLaren Vale's very finest; each year brings an incredible row of whites and reds that pack in bright aromatics and rich flavour density, all made possible by McLaren's ocean-influenced Mediterranean climate. We'll have all the fan-favourites on pour come tomorrow (Friday 29th) between 4:30 and 6:30pm, including the Tempranillo Grenache, Picpoul, Gewürztraminer/Pinot Gris skin contact blend, Gamay, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and two incredible Rhône-inspired Grenache expressions. All on special for the next week if you can't make it along, too!
Domaine de Montille make a seriously impressive suite of white wines that have been flying under the radar for years; their style is extremely appealing - intense, clean, balanced and stylish, without any excess weight. It’s rare to see any influence from winemaking sticking out awkwardly, making them terrific wines to use for representation of the region and their respective price points! While the notes/reviews below were written during the wines evolvage in barrel, we found them still entirely accurate to use for the wines now that they’ve been bottled.
Perhaps less needs to be said about Gautheron for many of our readers; undoubtedly one of Chablis' most interntionally recognised houses, and deservedly so. This family are absolute masters of that clear crystal-cut style, while imbuing their own sense of power and appropriate weight to the wine's final feel (please note that three of their labels will be pouring, but at the bottom of this email are more special prices on three additional premium options from Gautheron just released and available now, if interested!)
Needless to say, this will be an unmissable showing for any and all French wine lovers!

Gautheron Chablis Vieilles Vignes 2023 -
$75 on special this week; $85 RRP
The 2023 Gautheron Chablis VV is a complex and super appealing wine for its level. What we love most here is the mouthfeel thats tactile but not heavy. There is some fine tropical tension, with supporting notes of orange rind and ginger. Completely delicious, and a very reasonable price point for an old vine wine at this quality - Our Notes
Gautheron Chablis 'Les Fourneaux' 1er Cru 2023 -
$98 on special this week; $109 RRP
"Apricots, peaches and slate-like minerality dazzle on the nose. Nicely sappy, there is nippy acidity to keep this feeling fresh and mid-weight on the palate. The fruit from these 70-year- old vines sees 50% oak aging." - 93 Points, Tim Atkin MW & Christy Canterbury MW, Burgundy Report 2023
"The 2023 Chablis Les Fourneaux Vieilles Vignes 1er Cru, which comes from 70-year-old vines, has a slightly more waxy bouquet than the regular cuvée. Yet it is still well defined and focused. The palate is fresh and taut on the entry, with touches of mirin and spices entering the mid-palate." - Neal Martin, Vinous
Gautheron Chablis 'Mont de Milieu' 1er Cru 2023 -
$109 on special this week; $125 RRP
"Dominated by uplifting minerality on the nose, pear slices, nectarines and sweet spice saturate the chunky palate. This sees 20% oak, but save some mid-palate breadth, it was hard to find it in the wine. Elegant, fervently dry and long on the finish." - 93 Points, Tim Atkin MW & Christy Canterbury MW, Burgundy Report 2023
Domaine de Montille Bourgogne Blanc 2022 -
$72 on special this week; $82 RRP
"An all but invisible application of wood sets off the pretty aromas of pear and apple compote, lemon confit and a floral top note. The sleek, delicious and nicely vibrant medium weight flavors also conclude in a dry, crisp and youthfully austere finale. This is also quite good for its level and worth a look." - Allen Meadows, Burghound
Domaine de Montille Bourgogne Rouge 2022 -
$80 on special this week; $90 RRP
"An exuberantly pinot-like nose of ripe red berries and soft earth nuances gives way to delicious and sleek if not especially dense flavors that possess an unusually refined mouthfeel before concluding in a solidly long finish where only a hint of rusticity slowly appears. To enjoy young." - Allen Meadows, Burghound
Domaine de Montille Puligny-Montrachet 2022 -
$215 on special this week; $240 RRP
"An overtly floral-suffused nose speaks of carnation, acacia and lilac with additional hints of citrus, pear and subtle oak. The succulent, delicious and quite generous medium weight flavors an abundance of sappy dry extract while displaying good length on the balanced and nicely dry finale. This too could use better depth so some patience is in order." - Allen Meadows, Burghound
"The 2022 Puligny-Montrachet Village (from Chalumaux) has a rich bouquet with dried honey and touches of wild mint/lemon thyme. The palate is well-balanced with a keen thread of acidity, lightly spiced with a touch of stem ginger towards the finish. I like the way this coheres in the glass. Plenty of extract for a Village Cru - this comes recommended." - Neal Martin, Robert Parker Wine Advocate
Also on Pour for those interested -
Chateau de Marsannay Marsannay 'Les Favieres' 2022 -
$105 on special this week; $119 RRP
"Very old vines on a complex soil. This has an exquisite bouquet, with a very attractive floral raspberry note. The quality of the fruit is striking, with just a few well-judged tannins completing the structure. Fine potential here. All destemmed. Drink from 2027-2032." - Jasper Morris MW
"Ripe yet cool and elegant aromas are comprised by aromas of plum, black cherry and a violet top note. There is both better punch and density to the attractively textured mid-palate of the middleweight flavors that terminate in a mildly rustic, impressively persistent and noticeably firmer finale. This is excellent and worth considering." - Allen Meadows, Burghound
Other New Gautheron Releases Available on Special!
Chablis 'Montmains' 1er Cru 2023 -
$109 on special this week; $125 RRP
"Still in tank on fine lees, this has a concentrated nose of fresh milk, sea salt and lemon slices. It bustles with freshness, much to the relief of Cyril who said its acidity numbers were lower than he prefers. It finishes long, lifted and crunchy." - 94 Points, Tim Atkin MW & Christy Canterbury MW, Burgundy Report 2023
Chablis 'Bougros' Grand Cru 2023 -
$219 on special this week; $250 RRP
"Smoky reduction pops on the nose before the palate offers honeysuckle, pineberries and white nectarine. Focusing, peppy acidity easily handles the weighty fruit core. Saltiness mixes in on the satisfyingly long finish. Not to miss!" - Tim Atkin MW & Christy Canterbury MW, Burgundy Report 2023
"The 2023 Chablis Bougros Grand Cru has a clean, fresh and delineated bouquet that is nicely focused. This is quite neutral in style, but there is a sense of energy. The palate is well balanced with a tensile opening. This is less oily in texture than its peers, with a silver bead of acidity that maintains tension and fine weight on the pithy finish." - Neal Martin, Vinous
Chablis 'Les Preuses' Grand Cru 2023 -
$229 on special this week; $260 RRP
"Strongly chalky top notes are accompanied by golden kiwi, apple peels and musk melon. The striking, rapier-like acidity wraps around the creamy, glossy, toothsome mid-palate texture, giving this eye-opening refreshment. Marine nuances weave into the impressively long finish." - Tim Atkin MW & Christy Canterbury MW, Burgundy Report 2023
