The Perrin family lie very comfortably within the Rhône Valley elite, with the most enviable of the region's land holdings, stretching across Chateauneuf, Gigondas, Vinsobres, and the greater Rhône area! Their famous Château de Beaucastel is one of the area's most important estates, noted for their organic viticulture that started back in the 1960s, and biodynamic prinicples since the 1970s. Indeed, their large portfolio is full to the brim with high-quality whites and reds, and we're so excited to shine the spotlight on some of them at our tasting Saturday (7th) from 12 to 2pm! 2022 Famille Perrin Côtes du Rhône Blanc Réserve - $25 on offer ; $29 RRP
// Blend of White Grenache, Marsanne, Roussanne and Viognier
"Attractive intense yellow colour with shiny reflections. This wine opens up with a complex nose and a beautiful aromatic range combining notes of ripe fruit such as plums and candied orange sublimated by a touch of ginger. Well-balanced and dense, the mouth opens with a frank attack and a nice acidic tension before revealing all its fullness and its greedy aromas of candied fruit. The long finish is elegant thanks to a delicate bitterness. Pairs well with delicate or spicy (saffron) dishes, grilled fish, and bouillabaisse." - Winemaker Notes
2021 Chateau de Beautcastel Coudoulet Blanc - $78 on offer ; $89 RRP
// Bourboulenc 30%, Marsanne 30%, Viognier 30%, Clairette 10%
"2021 is a vintage marked by freshness, which is similar to the vintages we had in the eighties and nineties. It is also what we call a "winegrower vintage", human intervention and the care given to the vines were decisive for the quality of the vintage. Marked by climatic vagaries, with an episode of frost in April and interrupted harvest because of rain, this year has indeed required constant investment from our teams in the vineyard. Their attention and their commitment have borne their fruit: this vintage is very promising with lots of freshness and great balance. Beautiful clear and limpid colour with subtle green reflections. The nose reveals itself with lots of freshness and a delicate aromatic bouquet with aromas of citrus fruit and pomelo combined with notes of white flowers, bergamot and lime blossom. This superb freshness continues on the palate with a very nice balance and a finish full of liveliness." - Winemaker Notes
2020 Famille Perrin Côtes du Rhône Rouge Réserve - $25 on offer ; $29 RRP
// Grenache 40%, Mourvèdre 40% and Syrah 20%
"Beautiful intense and deep red color with purple reflections. This wine opens up with a powerful, very expressive empyreumatic nose with toasted notes, undergrowth and mushrooms such as truffles subtly mixed with aromas of kirsch. On the palate, it shows elegance with fine tannins that balance the opulent notes of very ripe black fruit and typical Syrah spices with a superb long finish. Pairs with beef, lamb and poultry." - Winemaker Notes
2020 Chateau de Beaucastel Coudoulet Rouge - $67 on offer ; $76 RRP
// 30% Grenache, 30% Mourvèdre, 20% Syrah, 20% Cinsault
"Superb deep-ruby red color with purple reflections. The nose reveals a beautiful freshness and a seductive aromatic bouquet combining notes of red fruit, spices and white pepper with a hint of perfectly integrated toasted vanilla. Full-bodied and very soft, the palate presents a very nice balance with freshness and aromas of black cherry jam. The finish is long with a beautiful aromatic intensity and velvety tannins. A wine of great elegance with good aging potential." - Winemaker Notes
2020 Famille Perrin Vinsobres 'Les Hauts de Julien' - $96 on offer ; $110 RRP
// Syrah 70% and Grenache 30%
"The 2020 harvest was very healthy with beautiful juicy and very ripe grapes, reasonable alcohol levels, good acidity and already a great balance. Yields are slightly higher than 2019 and the first tastings predict a very nice vintage. Beautiful, deep-purplish-red colour. The nose reveals a complex aromatic bouquet with notes of black fruit and sweet spices such as cinnamon and nutmeg. Powerful and silky on the palate, this finely oaked wine with rounded tannins offers good length with aromatic persistence." - Winemaker Notes
2020 Chateau de Beaucastel Chateauneuf-du-Pape - $240 on offer ; $275 RRP
"Beaucastel's 2020 Chateauneuf du Pape is shaping up as a blend of 30% each Grenache and Mourvèdre, with 10% each Counoise and Syrah, plus 20% other permitted varieties, including a healthy proportion of white grapes. Complex and red-fruited, with hints of flowers and garrigue, it's expansive and richly textured on the palate, finishing long and silky." - 95-97 Points, Joe Czerwinski, Wine Advocate
"Fresh and bright nose, then a palate with exceptionally smooth and fine tannins, lovely acidity and notes of blackberry and raspberry juice. Particularly fine, elegant and balanced this year. Grenache and Cinsault fermented in cement, Syrah and Mourvèdre fermented in foudre." - 96 Points, Decanter
