With one of the most celebrated vintages for Champagne in recent years, and a legendary house working at the top of their game, this week's special is a grand one - Taittinger's Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs release from 2012! For us, as well as many champagne lovers and collectors, Taittinger's Comtes releases always combine everything we adore about champagne into one marvelous bottle, and we have to say, this 2012 would be up there with the best we've ever tried. The palate here is unending, the exotic flavours perfectly pronounced and defined; look below to see the immense praise being heaped on this release...

- A Note from House Taittinger -

"The Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs is the finest example of the Taittinger House style and is always a vintage cuvée. It is made with 100% white grapes from the 5 villages with a Grands Crus classification for the Chardonnay grape (Avize, Chouilly, Cramant, Oger, Mesnil-sur-Oger). This cuvée is created using juice from the first press only. A small percentage (5%) of the blend is aged in fresh oak barrels to create the very delicate balance of toasted notes in the final wine. Taittinger knows it must be patient with these great Chardonnays, which are the crowning glory of its terroir; the Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs remains for up to 10 years in the chalk quarries beneath Saint-Nicaise, before emerging to ignite and delight the palates of wine-lovers."

"This is a fantastic and refined Blanc de Blancs. So layered and complex, with lemon curd, chalk, hazelnuts, pastries, baked apples and almond croissants. Structured and tightly wound, with almost imperceptible bubbles. Delicious salty notes at the end. Beautiful." - 99 Points, James Suckling

The 2012 Comtes de Champagne is gorgeous. Warm and resonant in the glass, the 2012 Comtes shows all the allure that makes this vintage so appealing. The combination of bright citrus, mineral and floral notes typical of Comtes, enhanced by the soft contours of the vintage, makes for an inviting, open-knit Champagne that is quite showy right out of the gate. Light tropical accents on the finish add an exotic flair. Usually I recommend cellaring just-released Comtes, but that won’t be necessary here." - 96 Points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous

"The 2012 Brut Blanc de Blancs Comtes de Champagne is showing beautifully out of the gates, offering up demonstrative aromas of sweet golden orchard fruit, buttery croissants, peach and hazelnuts. Medium to full-bodied, pillowy and enveloping, it's a rich, textural, vinous Comtes somewhat reminiscent of the brilliant 2002. If it gains in tension and cut (as the 2002 did and as I suspect the 2012 will) with more time on cork, it will make this initial rating seem conservative." - 95+ Points, William Kelley, Wine Advocate

"Smoky nose. Lemony and youthful but not too sweet. Admirable undertow and still with lots to give. Tight with a lacy texture and great persistence. A wine I'd love to follow over the years." - 18/20 Points, Jancis Robinson
