The name Cazes is well known in the Médoc region of Bordeaux where they own Châteaux Lynch-Bages, Ormes de Pez and Haut-Batailley, but their latest venture took them to the Rhône Valley, bringing their expertise and passion for excellent wine to the rugged terroir of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Building on four generations of winemakers, the Cazes family focuses on producing wines of impeccable purity, generous fruit-weight and superb balance, and their Southern Rhône offerings are no different - clean, delicious and oh-so-enjoyable, we are very excited to be able to offer you these gorgeous wines! With the textured and powerful Roussanne blend, the generous yet approachable 2018 red and the stunning, ready to drink 2012, we think this is a line-up not to be missed!
2020 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc - $89 per bottle ; $99 RRP
This is for you lovers of Meursault or buttery American Chardonnay! Rich, textured and powerful it is balanced by mouth-watering acidity and a long, mineral finish that makes you reach for the bottle for another glass. Absolutely fantastic.
"There's an artful harmony in this lusciously textured yet vibrant blend of Roussanne, Clairette and Grenache blanc (augmented by a small proportion of Bourboulenc). It's an ample wine with concentrated yellow apple and smoked hazelnut flavors lifted by streaks of underripe peach, lemon and lime. Lingering notes of chalk lend freshness to the finish. Approachable now yet likely to evolve well through 2030." - 93 Points, Wine Enthusiast
2018 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Rouge - $110 per bottle ; $125 RRP
This is a great example of what expert wine growing and winemaking can do in a warm vintage - charming, forward and utterly delicious, the 2018 is approachable now, but we would recommend you cellar this beauty for another 5-8 years and drink the below 2012 now!
"The 2018 Chateauneuf du Pape features scents of caramelized cherries with hints of cinnamon and vanilla. It's medium to full-bodied, lush and seductive, with a silky, enveloping mouthfeel and a gentle, lingering finish. A touch more complexity and this would be outstanding, but it's still hugely enjoyable as is." - 92 Points, The Wine Advocate
2012 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Rouge - $132 per bottle ; $149 RRP
The 2012 was such a great surprise when we tasted it, as it is not often that we can see aged Châteauneuf (we're not patient enough!). At a perfect spot right now, the wine offers plenty of fruit and garrigue, with a long kirsch-y finish - it is such a fun, delectable bottling. Buy with confidence and crack one open!
"Another rocking wine from this team, the 2012 Châteauneuf du Pape doesn’t disappoint and gives up loads of kirsch, cassis, licorice, meat juice, licorice and roasted herbs. Made from a blend of mostly Grenache, with Syrah and Mourvedre that was brought up in foudre, barrels and concrete, it’s a fruit-filled, medium to full-bodied, seamless and beautifully Provencal effort to drink over the coming decade." - 93 Points, The Wine Advocate
