We're always thrilled to focus on, and wholeheartedly recommend the creations of Maison Burtin, being their sole importers in Australia! It all started in 1933 in Épernay by the Oise-born Gaston Burtin, who sought to imbue his house with the values of elegance and discretion, typified by the house motto 'be bold and say little'. Their trio of bubblies currently in the shop (two Bruts and one Rosé) landed in from Champagne right at the start of this year, and their quality has only impressed us more and more as the time has passed, especially at their value.
For this Champagne Monday, we turn the spotlight on the beautifully balanced and structural Brut from a great vintage in 2014. The palate here is delightful, full of crisp fruits, creamy pastry, and floral aromas, making for perfect celebratory warm weather drinking! Our very own Bernadette O'Shea was full of praise for this bottle in particular, look below for her sparkling review; we hope you're tempted to try this wonderful house if you're yet to!

"This cuvée expresses the elegance of a great year. Made from a blend of predominantly Grand and Premier Crus, this wine reveals the complexity, richness and tension of this vintage with precision and pride. 2014 was marked by a mild winter, a warm spring and a cool, wet summer. Albeit late, the excellent weather in mid-August continuing through to September allowed the black grape varieties to ripen and produced uniform and beautifully ripe Chardonnays. With no major climate incident, the yield was satisfactory. 2014 delivered fresh and crisp Chardonnays, elegant and balanced Pinot Noirs, and zesty Meuniers." - House Notes
"This is a fresh and delightful champagne composed of Pinot Noir, Meunier and Chardonnay grapes, which are very round and layered. A lively & rich nose exudes fruity and floral aromas – of orchard flowers, & honeysuckle - which leads to a palate of baked apple, pie crust layered with yellow peaches and grilled almonds. Some blueberries appear with touches of plum and layers of toasted brioche interspersed with pieces of berry-layered nougat. There is a good creamy length with excellent open fruit structure on the palate, beautifully balanced, and it has an impressive length. Amazing value for money from this very excellent vintage." - Bernadette O'Shea, Champagne Consultant, TWE
