We hope everyone has had a great start to 2025! We're back from our little newsletter hiatus, and as excited as ever to let you know about all things surrounding all the best releases, in-store tastings, and notable events around Brisbane that we will host throughout the coming year.
To kick things off in nice summer style, we want to highlight two fantastic fruit-forward Pinot Noirs from Tasmania that are making for sublime drinking in their youth. Included is the brand new Ghost Rock Estate Pinot, fresh off winning the trophies for 'Best Pinot Noir' and 'Champion Wine of Show' at the recent Tasmanian Wine Show! It arrived through our doors Friday , and we're all totally in love. Tuned just right, not one smidge out of place, the fruit is so well-integrated while still packing a moreish line of acid and tension.
Similar has been our response to the Bream Creek Pinot Noir 2023, which at this stage has won more show awards than we can count (with just a few listed down below!) It is looking even better now than it did mid-2024 when it first appeared, and unlike the Ghost Rock, it will likely disappear very soon as they look to turn onto the next vintage. It's a little darker and earthier too, filled with classic fragrance of forest floor, charcuterie and dark cocoa.
This week also saw a last top-up of three Felton Road single vineyard Pinot Noirs. The 'Cornish Point', 'Calvert' and 'MacMuir', each one being from the warm 2023 season, are back looking pretty on our shelves, and will stay on special for the next week, should you have missed them the first time around!
Here's to a terrific year ahead! We'll let you all know about our first store tastings of the year before long, too...
Ghost Rock Estate Pinot Noir 2023 -
$40 on special this week; $45 RRP
// 35th Tasmanian Wine Show - 'Best Pinot Noir' Trophy Winner & 'Champion Wine of Show'!
A youthful new-world Pinot in every sense - so forward, energetic and packed with classic Tasmanian charm. The acid line is pitched to perfection, and there's a moreish component of ripe strawberries, rhubarb and sappy herbacious crunch. A terrific pick for the summer! - Our Notes
"Our Estate Pinot Noir comes from a blend of nine clones across our vineyard sites. Fruit was picked based on clonal ripeness and majority destemmed prior to a 7-14 day cold soak. Fermentation was a combination of cultured and wild yeast, with maturation taking place over 11 months in first-grade French oak, 30% new. A focused, perfumed wine displaying the full range of Pinot Noir aromatics. Softly texture and long on the palate." - Winemaker Notes
$39 on special this week; $44 RRP
Dr Bill Ryan Best Pinot Noir of Show - 2024 Royal Queensland Wine Awards
Best Pinot Noir, Best Red & Best Wine of Show - Royal Sydney Wine Show 2024
Gold Medal; International Wine & Spirits Awards 2024
An acclaimed release that is sure to run out soon before the 2024 arrives, this is the finest example of Bream Creek's total expertise of their south-eastern Tasmanian vineyards. Picked from mature Pinot vines, there is both impressive earthy depth and some very welcome fruit lift here, full of fragrant violets, dark cherries, ripe raspberries, and hints of charcuterie - Our Notes
"A delightfully fresh bouquet of flowers, red fruits (cherries, plums, raspberries), cedar and spice. The palate is similarly fresh and lithe, showcasing similar flavours, subtle and integrated tannins and a long finish carrying red fruits, a hint of cocoa and spice. With excellent fine tannins and a long finish, this wine would suit a wide range of foods, such as Raddoch farm quail with a pomegranate salad." - Winemaker Notes

Felton Road 'Cornish Point' Pinot Noir 2023 -
$99 on special; $110 RRP
"Layered, heady perfume of roses, wild berries and cinnamon bloom on this complex, arrestingly aromatic pinot. Densely concentrated and compact flavours of blackberry coulis and baking spice soak the entire palate in vibrant primary fruit. Submerged cocoa-tinged tannins make an appearance after a fashion. Impressive and intense yet effortless, this is very young, and already so delicious right now, but it will be vastly better with a bit of time in the cellar to gain more complexity." -96 Points, Stephen Wong MW, The Real Review
Felton Road 'Calvert' Pinot Noir 2023 -
$99 on special; $110 RRP
"Perfumed black fruit with dried thyme and savoury mushroom, smoky coffee nuances: this is aromatically complex but also a bit edgy. The angular, chalky tannins coating the palate are currently chewy and contribute to a sense of austerity on the otherwise long finish. Beneath the structure is evident perfume and elegance waiting to emerge. It just needs time." - 94 Points, Stephen Wong MW, The Real Review
Felton Road 'MacMuir' Pinot Noir 2023 -
$110 on special; $125 RRP
"A shy nose of ground spice, rosemary and violet unfurls from the dense core of savoury black fruit. Complex but also compact. The palate is a juxtaposition of very sweet, plush fruit with a generous personality against a backdrop of grainy wood spice, cocoa and cinnamon which coats the mouth. Relatively forward in style with gobs of intense fruit coating some serious tannins which also sit quite far forward. A crowd-pleasing style with plenty of substance and impressively concentrated though currently lacking the finesse which will hopefully come as it settles." -95 Points, Stephen Wong MW, The Real Review
