James Halliday once described him as the man who 'wears the unchallenged mantle of Australia’s foremost riesling maker.' It is praise that could only be attributed to Jeffrey Grosset, and the wonderful sense of individual character he has brought to Australian riesling for over forty years now!
Releases like the Polish Hill and Springvale Rieslings have become benchmark whites in the industry, beloved for their bright intensity, complex mid-palates, and slate-influenced textural touches through the long striking finishes. The Polish Hill, in particular, has been recognised as the country's #1 most collected white wine, as effortlessly enjoyable to sip on after a decade or two of mellowing in the cellar, where those toasty honeyed savoury characters begin to emerge through. Jeffrey and his small team, working within their certified organic and biodynamic vineyards that are also the coldest in the Clare Valley, also craft superb expressions of Fiano and Chardonnay; this year's Chardonnay is no doubt the finest we've ever seen from them, and unique reds like the Nereus Shiraz/Nero blend and Gaia Cabernet blend always hold compelling shape and dense tightly-coiled red fruit married well with the natural tannins.
We're excited to say, as always come that first weekend of September, that the new releases of each of these labels will be pouring come this Saturday (6th) between 12 and 2pm! The quality across the board is as memorable as ever, and trying them alongside each other is not only a great joy in these early warm days of spring, but a great education in the individual temperaments and tone of each Grosset vineyard. As a great example, the photo displayed below shows the size of an average grape bunch from the Springvale and Polish Hill sites - the comparatively tiny size of the Polish Hill cluster of course means lower yields, but results in the famous high concentration and length followers have adored for decades. For all the new release praise and tasting notes on each label, have a scroll below - we hope to catch you come Saturday afternoon!

Apiana Fiano 2025 -
Available for $49
// Certified Organic & Biodynamic
"Riotously intense with waves of lively beeswax perfume, this extraordinary Fiano shows powerful aromatics and lingering intensity. Specific Campanian clones grown on poor soils at Rockwood Vineyard deliver candied honey complexity through the mid-palate, finishing intense, dry and long. This ancient variety, known to the Romans as Apiana for its ability to attract bees, reveals layers of compelling complexity in our Clare Valley expression. The restrictive soils force the vines to dig deep, concentrating flavors and creating remarkable textural weight. Each sip unfolds with pristine clarity - white peach and quince meld with mineral undertones, while the signature beeswax character builds to an almost ethereal finish. The wine's natural acidity provides perfect balance, allowing the fruit's inherent power to shine through without overwhelming the palate. Ripe pear, honey, bliss." - Winemaker Notes
Alea Riesling 2025 -
Available for $49
// Certified Organic & Biodynamic
"It’s hard to get people excited over ‘balance’ but sometimes it’s a beautiful thing. This is a riesling of body, shape, juiciness and length, but as a determinant of quality it’s the balance that does it. It builds such a weight of flavour through the mid-palate that you wonder if it’s going to get stuck there – and then it just sails on as if everything has been taken in its stride. Is there some residual here? You’d barely know it. This is real craft, real understanding. This is an excellent riesling." - 94 Points, Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front
"Pale, almost water-like in the glass; very restrained and reserved on the nose also, with fresh pastry, lemon blossom aromas, the palate likewise shy and unready, with the merest trace of sweetness which carries a trace of honey, and leaves the palate cleansed and refreshed. This is a very youthful wine which needs time and will richly reward a little cellaring. I'd keep it for at least two years and then drink for 12+. It's almost a sin to open it too soon." -94 Points, Huon Hooke, The Real Review
Nereus Shiraz/Nero d'Avola 2023 -
Available for $55
// Certified Organic & Biodynamic
88% Shiraz and 12% Nero d'Avola
"Deep, bright and bold purple-red colour; intense violet and blueberry, blackberry aromas, chocolaty later, the wine fresh and bright in the mouth with tannins that are fine and subtle, the body medium in weight: an elegant style of red with light, fine, supple textured tannins and excellent harmony. It's quite primary at present but has much more to show us if given the time." - 93 Points, Huon Hooke, The Real Review
"The flavours themselves are lovely, so too the freshness, so too the texture. It’s a well-balanced red wine with blue- and black-berry flavours mixed in with potpourri, leather and licorice. Tannin is modest in volume but has just enough swagger to it to impress." - 92 Points, Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front
Springvale Riesling 2025 -
Available for $59
// Certified Organic & Biodynamic
"You get flashy aromatics, mid-palate fruit flesh and intensity, and a penetrating drive of flavour through the finish. This wine is only a few months old but already, it offers a lot. It will get better. Lime juice, grapefruit, citrus peel, a keen Riverstone character and exquisite length. This is textbook in the best of ways." - 96 Points, Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front
"Very light green-yellow colour; intense and lifted fragrance of lime leaf and lemon blossom, with a creamy pastry/yeasty overtone. The wine is likewise bright and very youthful in the mouth, concentrated, with cleansing acidity, good fruit intensity and persistence, with a hint of mid-palate richness which sets it apart. A precision wine that really sings on the tongue." - 95 Points, Huon Hooke, The Real Review
Polish Hill Riesling 2025 -
Available for $85
// Certified Organic & Biodynamic
"The weight of the palate here feels special. In fact the presence of this riesling, which is essentially frisky and, at that, only a few months old, is pretty remarkable. It tastes of stones, bath salts, florals and citrus, a gunmetal aspect lurking within. The purity of the fruit here, and the power of it, and the chalky, stony impression of the finish, all served in the context of flavour-filled, mouthwatering acidity: it’s all as delicious as it is a statement on quality. Superb release." - 96 Points, Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front
"Quite pale green-yellow in the glass, restrained and reserved on the nose with pristine lemon blossom and steely mineral aromas. The palate opens with again reserved flavours but great intensity, an impression of ripe-fruit sweetness in the centre before a finish of yeasty/pastry and lime/citrus flavours, white pepper and slaty acidity. Long carry, cleansing and appetisingly more-ish aftertaste. Best cellar for a year or two, then drink for a decade and a half." - 96 Points, Huon Hooke, The Real Review
Pinot Noir 2024 -
Avaiable for $89
// Certified Organic & Biodynamic
"Quintessential Adelaide Hills pinot from the mild 2024 vintage. With the majority whole bunch fermented with stalks one might expect a firmer, more savoury palate. Instead, it has a lightness of touch yet with depth and length of flavour. Tight and fine, intense in the mid-palate (think boysenberry, blackberry, raspberry) it has a freshness and elegance to satisfy with subtle tannins to finish. Fresh, vibrant, persistent." - Winemaker Notes
Chardonnay 2024 -
Avaiable for $99
// Certified Organic & Biodynamic
"Quality fruit. Quality oak. It’s glossy and smooth, pear and nectarine, nougat, fennel and white flower perfume, lime leaf, spicy biscuit oak. It has intensity, moves to ripe lime flavour on the palate, firm powdery texture, with a bright and juicy finish of excellent length. It offers polish and precision, and has something of a ginger biscuit and lemongrass exotic character in the aftertaste. Very nice. Exemplary, even. It could well be the best Grosset Chardonnay I’ve tasted. Just give it a year or two before opening." - 95 Points, Campbell Mattinston, The Wine Front
Gaia Cabernet Blend 2022 -
Avaiable for $109
// Certified Organic & Biodynamic
85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Cabernet Franc
"Very deep and very bright young red-purple colour, that stains the glass. There are fresh, youthful, almost raw aromas of raspeberry, cassis, blackberry and briar, beautifully ripened, the palate very concentrated, dense and full-bodied but not over- the-top. It's powerful, concentrated and backed by a welter of firm tannins, but doesn't sacrifice its elegance. This is a tightly packed, dense and focused cabernet that deserves a decent term in the cellar." - 97 Points, Huon Hooke, The Real Review
"Blackcurrant, blackberry, maybe some redcurrant, a classic cigar box thing happening here, plus some violet and mint perfume. It’s medium-bodied, intense small berried dark fruit, aniseed, lovely crunch of acidity, tight fine-grained tannin, maybe some black olive and tobacco savoury things, and the finish is very long. It’s a wine of wonderful shape and control, and offers a compelling follow up to the superb 2021." - 96 Points, Gary Walsh, The Wine Front
+ 96 Points - Erin Larkin, The Wine Advocate
& 96 Points - Mike Bennie, Halliday Wine Companion
