- A Quick Note on Vietti's 2018 Release -
This Saturday we celebrate a heap of new 2018 Barolo arrivals, and its no surprise that Vietti have made some of the best wines of the vintage. Their ‘entry’ level Barolo “Castiglione” is gorgeous - a blend of sites from many of Barolo’s subregions - its rounded, complete and satisfying. The single vineyards lift things to a whole new level delivering awesome depth and complexity, and most importantly, terroir/site expression. We only have tiny quantities of these, but don’t miss them if Barolo is your thing.
2020 Barbacan Rosso Alpi Retiche - $52 on special ; $59 per bottle
"Cherry juice, alpine herbs and floral perfume, something of a sweet soil, smoky/flinty/stony character too. Light, fresh, inflection of sweet herbs and distinct cherry juiciness, a little cinnamon spice, fresh, strawberry, succulence and chalky feel, a little pepper, and a bright cherry pip finish of good length. So charming. Very good!" - 93 Points, Gary Walsh, The Wine Front
2019 Vietti Langhe Perbacco Nebbiolo - $49 on special ; $56 per bottle
"Medium deep ruby color. Quite intense and generous fruity nose (red berries) along with floral and spicy notes, a hint of menthol and hard candy. On the palate medium bodied, showing notable intensity while retaining an essentially mid-weight style. Strong, intense and quite powerful when young, evolving to a complex and elegant, very well balanced wine with ageing. The tannins are harmoniously integrated in the fruit structure of the wine. Long lasting aftertaste with good freshness." - Winemaker Notes
“I can’t think of too many estates in Piedmont that have raised the bar higher than Vietti has over the last decade or so. Virtually every wine that emerges from these cellars is outstanding, and many are profound … an unprecedented level of consistency and quality across their entire range.” - Antonio Galloni, Vinous
2019 Giovanni Rosso Langhe Nebbiolo - $49 on special ; $56 per bottle
"Perfumes of violet and roses, with some nice fruits and cherry/raspberry hints. On the palate, quite easy to drink, with a fine structure; elegant tannins together with a good freshness. Perfect for any situation; it can be wonderfully enjoyed from a simple rural picnic to the most silverscreened aperitif; can easily stand important dishes as well." - Notes from Giovanni Rosso
2019 Poderi Colla Barbaresco Roncaglie - $139 on special ; $160 per bottle
"Barbaresco Roncaglie fascinates with its elegance and pleasantness, with spicy and velvety aromas that envelop the nose and palate, leaving a long gustatory persistence. Excellent aging potential." - Winemaker Notes
"Barbaresco. Palish ruby. Embryonic, tight nose with savoury minerally hints and just a shimmer of red fruit. A core of sweet raspberry fruit framed by firm, ripe and polished tannins. Spectacular tannic structure that is totally captivating and with youthful, focused red fruit." - 18+ / 20 Points, Walter Speller, Jancis Robinson
2018 Trediberri Barolo Comune de La Morra - $95 on special ; $110 per bottle
"The 2018 Barolo del Comune di La Morra is absolutely gorgeous. Bright and translucent yet with remarkable depth for the year, the 2018 is terrific. Proprietor Nicola Oberto decided not to bottle his flagship Barolo from Rocche dell'Annunziata and used the fruit to bolster his straight Barolo bottling, a decision that was spot on. Sweet red cherry, orange peel, cinnamon, tobacco and dried leaves are all very nicely lifted in this ethereal, nuanced Barolo. The 2018 is simply exquisite. Readers will have a hard time finding a better example of the year at this level." - 92 Points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous
2018 Giovanni Rosso Barolo Comune di Serralunga d'Alba - $95 on special ; $110 per bottle
"Deep ruby red color with garnet hues. The nose is very elegant, showing complex tertiary notes of dark cocoa, ripe raspberry, plum and peppery hints. The sip is extremely polished, rich, well-structured and well balanced with smooth tannins and a long flavorful finish. Ideal with grilled liver sausages and robust dishes such as roasts, braises, all types of game, and with aged hard cheeses." - Winemaker Notes
"Aromas of red berry, camphor and wet stone form the nose. Savory and vaunting an understated elegance, the luminous, focused palate offers strawberry compote, juicy red cherry, baking spice and crushed mint framed in fine-grained tannins. Vibrant acidity keeps it energized and balanced." - 94 Points, Kerin O'Keefe, Wine Enthusiast
2018 Vietti Barolo 'Castiglione' - $122 on special ; $140 per bottle
"Aromatically this Barolo is delicate with notes of dried roses and violets, red cherries and a hint of fine baking spice. On the palate, the wine has mouth watering tannins with red fruit flavors, dried basil, and a kiss of leather." - Winemaker Notes
"Vietti has the enormous advantage of 10 MGA sites at its disposition for blending purposes (and for making single-vineyard wines). This allows them to select the fruit they want to best express any one vintage. The 2018 Barolo Castiglione draws upon those 10 sites (including the recent additions of Mosconi, Ginestra, Bricco Ravera and Briccolina) to make what is ultimately its best-selling wine (with 35,000 bottles released). This classic rendition is tonic and clean with varietal tones of wild berry, rose and rusty nail." - 94 Points, Monica Larner, Robert Parker Wine Advocate

2017 Massolino Barolo Parussi - $193 on special ; $220 per bottle
"“The 2017 Barolo Parussi is a classic Castiglione Falletto Barolo. Sweet floral notes and bright, red berry fruit open first as the 2017 shows off its considerable charms. Medium in body and silky (for the year), with exceptional balance, the 2017 Parussi is stellar. This is an unbelievably classy Barolo.” - 95 Points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous
“The estate's first Barolo made from grapes grown outside of the Serralunga d’Alba commune, retaining the refined style of the estate; as respectful as it is precise. The wine is restrained and chiselled, with a detailed nose of violet, vibrant sandalwood and wild strawberry. Fleshy first, then velvety, this is polished in the mouth, with mid-palate weight and firm acidity. The structure seems filigreed but it's there, and it's built for the long haul.” - 97 Points, Aldo Fiordelli, Decanter
