Ruinart, Veuve Clicquot, Moët Chandon & Dom Pérignon - First of our Festive Tastings!

Published by The Wine Emporium on 8th Nov 2024

We know you've all been keenly awaiting this time of year, where all our Saturdays take a very bubbly turn - we're thrilled to say this weekend will be the first in a long series leading towards that big December day! And what names we have in store for you to get the ball rolling...

This Saturday 9th November from 12 to 2pm (or until bottles run dry, which we expect they will!), join us and host Adrien Dumont (Moët Hennessy Australia) as we take you on a journey through four great houses - Moët & Chandon, Veuve Clicquot, Ruinart and Dom Pérignon. A collection of names to relish, indeed; 2015 vintage will be in particular focus on the day, with the latest release from Dom as well as the efforts from Moët and Veuve on show, while the striking Brut and Rosé NVs will be Ruinart's contribution! What's more, there'll be a detour down to the Yarra Valley and the great sparkling house of Chandon, showing off their impressive multi-vintage release, the Étoile. All bottles on special for the next week, too!

We look forward to seeing many of you on the day! There'll be a tempting magnum-sized golden bottle of Moët & Chandon's Brut Imperial NV up for grabs as a giveaway prize as well, so we're very keen to see who takes that one home...

Moët & Chandon, Veuve Clicquot, Ruinart and Dom Pérignon - Specials & Saturday Tasting

Saturday 9th November

12 to 2pm

---

Moët & Chandon Grand Vintage 2015$115 on special this week; $135 RRP
(their Brut Imperial NV will also be on pour on the day)

// 44% Pinot Noir, 32% Chardonnay and 24% Pinot Meunier

"The 2015 Extra-Brut Grand Vintage is a terrific choice for drinking now, as it is so expressive. Baked apple tart, spice, lemon confit, marzipan and a hint of toastiness are front and center. Open-knit and engaging, the 2015 is a Champagne of pure and total pleasure." - 93 Points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous

Veuve Clicquot Brut NV$85 on special this week; $95 RRP

"The latest rendition of Clicquot's emblematic NV Brut Yellow Label contains around 35% reserve wines—mostly from the last five vintages—and was finished with 10 grams per liter dosage. Offering up aromas of warm bread, peach, citrus oil and crushed chalk, it's medium to full-bodied, ample and fleshy, with a sweet core of fruit marked by a touch of sweetness from its dosage, concluding with a clean, nicely defined finish" - William Kelly, The Wine Advocate

Veuve Clicquot Vintage Brut 2015$134 on special this week; $149 RRP

"The predominance of Pinot Noir (50%), produced exclusively from grapes selected from the Grand Cru and Premier Cru villages, provides the structure that is so typically Clicquot. Chardonnay (30%) brings the elegance and finesse of a perfectly balanced wine, while a small percentage of Pinot Meunier (20%) rounds out the blend. This wine stands out for its elegance, tension and energy. The first impression is of its tension, verticality and minerality, after which the wine unfolds its aromas of toast, roasted coffee beans and praline. The excellent structure makes this a fine, upstanding vintage.” - House Notes

Ruinart Brut NV$140 on special this week; $159 RRP

"This is a distinctive, softly structured champagne with a smooth palate. The wine has a nose of lilies, hawthorn and white apple blossom, and leads to a palate of white nectarines, stewed golden delicious apple and cooked pears. There are hints of pineapple, lemon sherbet, raspberry, new season cherry and strawberry flavors, followed by a layer of cashews, macadamia nuts, preserved lemon & grapefruit rind, mineral streaks and cooked peaches sprinkled with cinnamon. The blend is approximatively 50% Pinot Noir, 10% Pinot Meunier and 40% Chardonnay." - Bernadette O'Shea, Champagne Consultant, TWE

Ruinart Rosé NV$210 on special this week; $235 RRP

“Created from Premier and Grand Cru vineyards in this oldest Champagne House. It has a glorious pinky/orange colour and a nose of climbing roses and pink sweet peas. The palate reflects lots of figs and pomegranates with edges of cherries, raspberries, guava, deep pink grapefruit and pistachio nuts with hints of mint. 55% pinot noir from Montagne de Reims and Vallée de la Marne - 18% of which is vinified as red wine (to give colour) and 45% chardonnay from Côte des Blancs and Montagne de Reims chardonnay enclave. A stunning and striking champagne.” - Bernadette O’Shea, Champagne Consultant, TWE

Dom Pérignon 2015$405 on special this week; $459 RRP

// 51% Pinot Noir and 49% Chardonnay (5g/L dosage)

"The 2015 Dom Pérignon is terrific. Bright and poised, the 2015 shows terrific energy. Citrus peel, white flowers, mint, white pepper and slate all race across the palate. There's gorgeous tension and backbone here, with bright saline notes that extend the mid-palate and finish. This is a fine showing in a vintage that has proven to be tricky. I am intrigued to see how the 2015 develops in the coming years." - 96 Points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous

Chandon (Yarra Valley) Étoile Multi-Vintage Sparkling$110 on special this week; $129 RRP

"A true multi-vintage blend of eight years of Chandon’s Vintage Brut reserve wines held in barrel dating back to 2005. You’d think it might be too heavy and complex – but in fact, it has exceptional balance, poise and length, with flavours spanning white peach to croissant, leading to a lingering fresh finish." - 97 Points, James Halliday

"Brilliant light-medium straw-yellow colour with very fine bubbles, and very complex aromas of candle-wax, beeswax, nougat, small white flowers, citrus blossoms and quite subtle toastiness considering the wine's age. In the mouth it's intense and beautifully soft, texturally refined, the finish clean and dry and appetising without obvious acidity or noticeable grip or sweetness. A masterpiece of blending, technically impressive and deliciously drinkable. Fruit is highlighted rather than yeast/aged characters. (A blend of eight vintages back from 2016 to 2005, aged four years on tirage. Dosage 4 grams/litre)" - 97 Points, Huon Hooke, The Real Review
