Yarra Yering | Pre-Release Tasting this Saturday

Yarra Yering | Pre-Release Tasting this Saturday

Published by The Wine Emporium on 27th Mar 2025

Featuring the 2025 winner for Red Wine of the Year from the Halliday Wine Companion, the great name of Yarra Yering is set to line our table for a pre-release tasting this Saturday (29th), in what is always one of the most anticipated annual releases on the calendar!

The incredible work undertaken by head winemaker Sarah Crowe and chief viticulturalist Andrew George for over a decade now (joining the Yarra Valley estate in 2013 & 2012 respectively) has not gone unnoticed - they've deservedly become magnet for praise and accolades from many revered Australian publications. 2022 for them was a year with higher than average rainfall, and cooler temperatures through the spring, before drying up just as harvest began, translating to terrific overall quality of fruit that's showing their famed dark concentratation and presence of fresh natural acid.

On the lineup will be the Dry White No. 1 (textural Semillon & Chardonnay blend), the herbal and elegant Agincourt Cabernet Malbec, the driven and potent Underhill Shiraz, and the two big ones - Dry Red No. 1 (Cabernet, Merlot & Malbec blend) and No. 2 (Shiraz, Marsanne & Mataro blend); the latter of which being the Halliday winner! Come join host Tim Hampton from Pure Wine Co between 12 and 2pm, as he gives pours you a glass and guides you through each of them!

Friday (28th) afternoon, we'll also be showing the rums from Bumbu (Barbados) and a whisky from The Deacon (Islay) - come on by 4 to 6pm, and enjoy these rich treats to bring a shine to the grey weather lately!

What's on Pour -

Dry White No. 1 2022
Available for $69

// 85% Semillon and 15% Chardonnay

"A super-bright colour. Flinty with aromas of wet stone, green apples and pear. Terrific definition on the palate, which has some textural richness but is restrained and tightly wound at the same time. Chalky and long. A great food wine that'll also age gracefully over the next few years." - 96 Points, James Halliday Wine Companion

Agincourt Cabernet Malbec 2022
Available for $115

// 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Malbec

96 Points – 2025 Halliday Wine Companion

"Perfume is the signature of this wine with lifted violets, bramble and berry fruits. Refreshing fruit flavours include mulberries and blueberries. Some nettle presents a cool leafy lift and clove spices dance with vibrant acidity and an elegant fruit drive. The Malbec component brings the acid crunch to the wine. A wine of wonderful fruit purity with some mocha warmth and fresh leather aromas." - Winemaker Notes

"Dark berries, cassis, violets, a trace of ironstone. Palate is tight, firm, elegant, beautifully balanced and ready for ageing. Excellent wine." - 94 Points, Huon Hooke, The Real Review

Underhill Shiraz 2022
Available for $139

// Gold Medal & Trophy for Best Victorian Shiraz - Melbourne Royal Wine Awards 2023

98 Points - James Halliday Wine Companion

"Brilliant full purple-red hue with aromas of violet/floral nutmeg/spices, the palate bursting with immature fruit that possibly could have enjoyed longer in the barrel. Peppery cool-grown aromas abound. The tannins are fine and emery-like. A wine that is balanced and elegant enough to drink young but I would cellar it to bring more complexity into it. Elegant and delicious." - 95 Points, Huon Hooke, The Real Review

Dry Red No. 2 2022
Available for $139

// 96% Shiraz, 2% Marsanne, 1.5% Mataro and 0.5% Viognier

Red Wine of the Year - 2025 Halliday Wine Companion
"A brilliant crimson red. In fact, a brilliant Dry Red Wine No. 2. There's a little reduction when first poured but it doesn't take long for this to reveal a complex amalgam of red and black fruits, iodine, graphite and melted, dark licorice. Fleshier and more refined and seductive than last year's version. Incredibly svelte tannins. Supremely balanced. I reckon Yarra Yering's founder, Dr Bailey Carrodus, would be chuffed with this." - 99 points, Philip Rich, Halliday Wine Companion

Good deep, bright colour with nutmeg/spice and a whiff of oak in the bouquet. It's young and has what it takes to age well. The wine is deep in dark berry fruits, firmed up by taut tannins and acidity. Young and bold yet also elegant, with a bright future. Ideally it needs a bit more time." - 96 Points, Huon Hooke, The Real Review

Dry Red No. 1 2022
Available for $155

// 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Merlot, 6% Malbec and 3% Petit Verdot

97 Points - 2025 Halliday Wine Companion

"Sweet ripe berry aromas a touch of smoky reduction, a hint of briar, the palate has good intensity and focus, with a little astringency and bright acidity enlivening the middle and finish. Firm tannins add good structure to the wine. There is elegance and detail. Delicious wine that will reward cellaring." - 96 Points, Huon Hooke, The Real Review
