Description
Based in Bicheno on the east coast of Tasmania, you might not call Apsley Gorge a cult winery, but there’s no doubt these wines are fervently bought by collectors, and for good reason. Owner and viticulturist Brian Franklin does things his own way, choosing to pick late to build as much flavour as possible. The wines pack a punch and are lower in acidity, with gorgeous texture and richness. The Chardonnay can often be picked as late as the first week of May, and is golden and rich, with a decent dollop of butter right from the start. This is all about mouth-filling satisfaction! Moreish waves of citrus fruit, roasted nut, fresh pastry and toasted oak, plus finished off nicely by some well-integrated natural acidity that keeps things fresh and fragrant - Our Notes
