"Macán is a modern and highly personal take on the highly expressive, top-quality wines of the Rioja DOCa. It is a commitment to finesse, elegance, complexity, and power. It is the flagship of Bodegas Benjamin de Rothschild & Vega Sicilia, the project launched by Tempos Vega Sicilia and the Edmond de Rothschild Wine Company in 2004. Macan is made exclusively from Tempranillo grapes. The grapes are carefully selected from old plots planted on high terraces and poor, gravelly, poorly developed, clayey-calcareous soils.
In September 2019, when we tasted the grapes, they were rustic, but the 80 liters we harvested helped us refine those textures. 2019 was a year of special care to avoid overripening, to seek that al dente moment of the harvest. A vintage of infusions during fermentation, of not pushing the presses too hard, and of working and fine-tuning them well before blending. We also reduced the impact of the barrel in favor of the foudres, all with the goal of taming the wine. Macán 2019 was a full-bodied, juicy, firm vintage, somewhat timid but with great potential for development." - Producer Notes
