"A limestone which breaks down easily, with chardonnay vines replacing pinot noir after 2005. South facing, late to start in the spring, but early to be picked. "Back after being blended into a generic Premier Cru last year, the 2022 Saint-Aubin Les Castets 1er Cru has a tightly-wound bouquet with Granny Smiths and quite potent flinty elements drawing you more towards Puligny. The palate is well-balanced with a lightly spiced opening. Very malic, which is remarkable considering the warmth that summer, with veins of stem ginger and crushed stone towards the finish. "This is also cool and airy with notes of mineral reduction, green apple and crushed fennel leading to racy and nicely voluminous medium weight flavors that exhibit solid length on the balanced, clean and agreeably dry finale.
