Description / Reviews

"Although regarded as one of the leaders of the modernist movement, in recent times, there has been a clear step away from this very ‘new world’ approach with a significant reduction in the amount of new wood used, along with the addition of some larger format oak (and even the odd concrete egg fermenter!) now being found at the winery. Other changes such as slower fermentation and maceration times are helping show each Crus individuality. Over the past 4 to 5 years, chief Oenologist Oscar Arrivabene has been working as Domenico Clerico’s right-hand man, and with the passing of Domenico Clerico in July 2017, Oscar has fully taken over the reins." - Primavera, Importer

"A super-intense wine with aromas of fresh violets, roses, restrained cherries and pomegranates. The palate shows sweet fruitiness, crisp acidity and chewy, firm yet dynamic tannins. Polished finish. Drink or hold." - 92 points, Aldo Fiordelli for James Suckling

"Lustrous mid ruby. Brooding, concentrated marasca cherry with a saline and spicy undertone. Real lift on the nose with aeration. A core of cherry fruit wrapped up in tightly knit, gravelly tannins. Long, slumbering aromatic finish that is firmly structured so patience is needed. But it will be rewarded." - 17/20 points, Walter Speller for Jancis Robinson

"Clerico’s Monforte village bottling is built around a backbone of Ginestra, taking the highest and lowest plots of the Ciabot Mentin vineyard. It also incorporates east-facing parcels from Mosconi and a pinch from Bussia. Matured in a combination of French oak barriques and larger casks, it launches with cedar and pine-inflected cherry. Glossy and pure, the palate brings dark strawberry into the mix, and confidently extracted tannins boast a supple chew. This is full of glorious youthful vigour, ending on a eucalyptus note." - 92 points, Michaela Morris for Decanter
