"The 2024 Dönnhoff Höllenpfad im Mühlenberg Grosses Gewächs is a compelling expression of one of the Nahe’s most distinctive Riesling sites. Sourced from the finest parcels within the steep, red-sandstone slopes of Roxheimer Höllenpfad, this Grosses Gewächs derives its character from weathered Rotliegend sandstone soils that impart a remarkable combination of intensity, spice, and mineral precision. In a vintage marked by severe spring frost and dramatically reduced yields, the wine captures both the concentration and classical structure that define the finest wines of 2024.
The nose is immediately captivating, offering layers of white peach, nectarine and citrus blossom alongside notes of crushed herbs, wet stone and subtle smoky reduction. As the wine opens, hints of lime zest, yellow apple and red sandstone minerality emerge, revealing a wine of considerable complexity and detail. The palate is dense yet remarkably poised, balancing ripe stone fruit with vibrant acidity and a finely etched saline backbone. The signature red sandstone soils contribute a distinctive spicy, almost peppery character, while the old vines lend depth, texture and concentration.
Despite its power, the wine remains graceful and precise, with a sense of energy that carries effortlessly through the palate. Layers of citrus, peach skin, crushed rock and mineral salts build toward a long, intensely focused finish that is both mouthwatering and refined. Elegant rather than imposing, the 2024 Höllenpfad im Mühlenberg GG is a wine of tension, transparency and remarkable site expression. Whilealready immensely impressive, its structure and mineral drive suggest a long life ahead, rewarding careful cellaring over the next two decades and beyond." - Donnhoff, Winemaker
Such an elegant wine, with sensational balance of stony minerality and very fine peachy fruit. All the flavors of the peach from white to red via yellow. Super-long and elegant finish with great finesse. From organically grown grapes with Fair’n Green certification. Drink or hold." - 96 Points, Stuart Pigott, James Suckling
"The 2024 Höllenpfad im Mühlenberg GG Roxheimer Riesling opens with ripe, juicy, rather generous fruit and a salty base. Powerful, dense and compact on the palate, with lots of citrus notes in the finish, this 2024 still needs a lot of time but also shows great promise." - 94 Points, Stephan Reinhardt, Wine Advocate
"The 2024 Riesling Roxheimer Höllenpfad im Mühlberg Grosses Gewächs, from the very heart of this red Permian sandstone site, tingles with a sense of pepper on the nose. The palate is beautifully clear and luminous, only revealing tender notions of the usually herbal savour as shimmering touches of tansy and yarrow. This is like a sublimation of Riesling. It’s ultra-light, ultra-bright and so deeply rooted in stone. (Bone-dry)." - 93–95 Points. Anne Krebiehl MW, Vinous
