Description
"The terroir, the tasteable origin of this quality wine, is rooted in the stony, porous slate soils of Nierstein. This Riesling, with its unmistakable sense of place, shines with extract-rich fruit, an open structure and firm tension, combined with the greatest possible finesse and vibrancy. During the main harvest of our great growths in Nierstein, the fine botrytis grapes for this selection were hand-picked into a second bucket, then gently pressed and spontaneously fermented in stainless steel. This wine has a bright yellow colour and a bouquet of fully ripe apricots, mirabelle plums and crisp red apples. It combines the joyful fruitiness of the Rote Hang with distinct mineral notes and a fine spiciness. It also has aromas of acacia honey, long red pepper and wet pebbles. On the palate, the wine is led by the ripe fruit and flows over the tongue with gentle viscosity. The full fruit is lightly framed by delicate salty minerality, which clearly characterises this Auslese as a child of the Roter Hang. The Nierstein Riesling Auslese is a perfect aperitif. It is extraordinarily versatile at the table and goes well not only with a fresh piece of apple pie, but also makes a liverwurst sandwich shine in a new light." - Winemaker Notes
