Description / Reviews

"First planted in 1989, Pinot Noir now accounts for 35% of the vineyard, covering just under 10 hectares. The vineyard features four distinct blocks: two planted in the early 2000s with Dijon 114 and 115 (southwest-facing) and two D5V12 blocks from the original 1989 plantings (east-facing). This vintage is crafted from the two 1989 blocks—one rich in ironstone, contributing to its deep tannin structure—and one of the Dijon 114/115 blocks.

The vines thrive in lean, loamy soils threaded with ironstone and quartz, adding to the wine’s structure and fragrance. A mix of whole-bunch and destemmed fruit undergoes 10-21 days on skins before maturing in a selection of barrels—barrique, puncheon, and demi-muid—40% of which are new. We favour tight-grained, low-impact oak to enhance texture and complexity without overshadowing the purity of the fruit." - Murdoch Hill, Winemaker

"This is comprised entirely of Lenswood fruit and the average vine age is 30-plus years. I anticipate the release of this wine from Murdoch Hill's 'space' series each year. Medium weight with dialled-up concentration, raspberry, apple fruit leather, subtle clove and cinnamon spice, an earthy moss character with dried leaves strewn atop. The tannins pull everything inward, concentrating the flavours of the wine further, suggesting a long life ahead. A beautiful reminder and promise of the potential of the region." - 96 Points, Katrina Butler, Halliday Wine Companion

"Flavoured acidity, long strings of tannin, cuts of mineral and herb notes rolled and crushed on the heal of your palm. This is the top tier Pinot Noir from Murdoch Hill but its quality is built more on length, style and finesse than it is on any overt step up in intensity. There a momentum to this wine; an irrepressibility. It’s juicy, dry, tannic and, ultimately, thrilling through the finish." - 95 Points, Campbell Mattinson
