Description / Reviews

"The Chardonnay grapes are hand harvested into small 15kg crates then whole bunch pressed with minimal settling overnight into new (30%) and old French oak barriques (228L) and larger format barrels (500 and 600L). Fermentation begins spontaneously with wild yeast from our vineyards and winery, with full malolactic fermentation occurring naturally. Wines mature on full lees for 11 months with no battonage. A small dose of sulphur is added at blending, just prior to bottling. No added yeast, no enzymes, no fining.

The 2024 Summit Chardonnay has intensity and power on the nose with fleshy yellow peach, nutty almond meal and spring blossom. Finer layers of elderflower, honeycomb, quince, freshly cut meadow hay and oystershell. The palate offers ripe yellow stone fruit, creaminess and length with a bright and balanced acidity. A fine mineral line adds to length and complexity. Well integrated oak adds subtle nutty and toasty elements. Expressive, complex and long, this Chardonnay captures the distinctive vibrance of Ngeringa’s Summit Vineyard." - Ngeringa, Winemaker

"Certified biodynamic, wild yeasts, 100% mlf, 11 months on lees, unfined. Threads of salted lemon, astonishing length. The ascension of fruit stops at nothing; its pace enraptures the senses. Ripples of acidity uncoil and stretch out until they're filigreed, like native ferns unfurling to the sun. Ozone, nectarine, cashew and texture – the phenolics perfectly in check – and a smattering of spice from 30% new French oak. Lemon curd, croissant and crème pâtissière to close. This is a magnificent wine. If it isn't yet, get Ngeringa on your radar." - 96 Points, Katrina Butler, Halliday Wine Companion
