Charles Benoit & Gaston Burtin Return | Champagne Monday

Charles Benoit & Gaston Burtin Return | Champagne Monday

Published by George Kelly - The Wine Emporium on 28th Sep 2026

It's one very happy homecoming for Champagne Monday this week! To those who have not strolled through our doors in recent days and seen the renewed stacks in person, we're thrilled to report a restock of both our Charles Benoit and Gaston Burtin imported options!

First in the spotlight has to be the undeniable sense of charm and levity behind the Benoit - we could not have hoped for a warmer response to our offer back in August on its magnum formats, and we are admittingly relieved to have this fast-mover back in its regular 750ml bottles , having originally thought the shipment to be cutting it a lot closer to the festive period! These fresh disgorgements bring forth the same racy ripe citrus, moreish nuttiness, and pillowed mouthfeel that this close-knit blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay has become beloved for - it is always incredibly complimentary for us to hear how many celebratory occasions this label excels at! Long may it continue.

And back onto the stage once more comes Burtin (having been out of stock even longer than the Benoit), which is no doubt the structural and powerful brother of the two, holding equal parts Épernay Pinot Noir & Meunier (35% each, with the remainder Chardonnay). The brand new base vintage of 2021 feels in a great youthful spot, lending ripe red fruit aromatics, coiled in close with layers of pastry, honey and stonefruit, plus brushes of sippable salty brine that make for a crispy finality. This is the one to sit back with a little more, and make its acquaintance over an hour or two with a savoury poultry dish, or a good block of cheese. As ever, a detailed delight at a price you don't see Champagne of this quality sit at anymore.

Individual specials on both are set for the coming week to celebrate their return, but we also offer a bottle of each together as a duo pack at an even sharper price for this week only; the perfect way to sample these two utterly drinkable yet stylistically different options next to one another, or the ideal gift for that client, friend or loved one who seem to only obsess over a bottle of bubbles and not much else. We've got to say, we can't fault them on that one.

Charles Benoit Cuvée Réservée Brut NV
$49 on special this week ($55 RRP)

// Our best-selling imported bubbles (a near-equal blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir) continues to be produced exclusively for us by Champagne Lanson.

A soft and well-rounded sipping option for any setting, packed with lively citrus and tropical hints, before a medium-long finish of florals and nuttiness.

"A lovely champagne with a good mouthfeel and fresh lively fruit. There is a layer of blueberries, greengage plums, grapefruit, Bosc pears, kumquats, and almonds in their skins. Beautiful lemon bread with edges of almond biscotti appear on the palate with some stewed apple, honey dew melon, flicks of quince, lemon marmalade and dried apricots. This is all surrounded by an edging of lemon curd and flicked with thyme and a sprinkle of walnut. This is excellent value for money and perfect for festive celebrations!" - Bernadette O'Shea, Champagne Consultant, The Wine Emporium

Gaston Burtin Brut NV
$62 on special this week ($69 RRP)

// The more structural and powerful option of the two, brought together by its equal parts Pinot Noir & Meunier, lending sweet red fruit aromatics and layers of pastry, honey and stonefruit, finishing off with sippable flicks of salty brine

// 35% Pinot Noir, 35% Pinot Meunier and 30% Chardonnay
2021 base vintage, with 25% reserve (solera) wines
8g/L dosage

"This is a delightful champagne from a House established in 1933. It has great structure and fruitiness with a round texture and lots of freshness. Composed of the three classic grapes, the supporting Pinot Noir reflects black and red berries, while the Chardonnay shines with ripe lemons, mandarins, apricots, hints of melon, pineapple and glazed fruits. A layer of fine pastry appears with French patisserie shining through the palate – and honeyed nuts making a statement in the mouth. All of this with spicy undertones and a splendid lingering finish. A most refreshing and delicious non-vintage champagne for the most amazing price! Try some – you will not be disappointed." - Bernadette O'Shea, Champagne Consultant, The Wine Emporium
