2021 Hoddles Creek

Published by The Wine Emporium on 19th May 2022

Located in the heart of Yarra Valley, Hoddles Creek were established back in 1997 by the exceptional D'Anna family. Over these past twenty or so years, led by their true wine guru Franco D'Anna, they have forged for themselves one of the finest reputations in the whole region, having a genuine claim at being one of the best value producers in the whole country! Year on year, we always find that both of these wines are among the most impressive and stylish Aussie drops at their respective price points - the 93+ point Chardonnay displaying a crisp clean Chablis-esque flavour, and the 94 point Pinot Noir showing a deft balance of tannins, red fruit, and spiced notes that linger beautifully on the palate. These do tend to go quick, so be sure not to miss out!

2021 Hoddles Creek Estate Chardonnay - $24.50 per bottle ; $28 RRP

"The chardonnay you should buy for any night of the week, for any occasion. It’s chardonnay in a style that somehow manages to straddle various streams; it’s an arthouse chardonnay that crosses over into the mainstream. It does because it has flavour but it also has drive; it’s fresh and zippy but its stonefruit-and-apple flavours have bite. It’s the Yarra Valley with a nod to Chablis in a way; there’s oak but it’s not boosted by it. There’s flavour but it’s chalky and taut. It is in short a gift that keeps on giving." - 93+ Points, Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front

2021 Hoddles Creek Estate Pinot Noir - $24.50 per bottle ; $28 RRP

"This wine, as we all know at The Winefront, is a modern legend. One day, one fine day, far in the future, this label should win a medal for Services to Australian Pinot Noir. This release jumps out at you. It’s fragrant and lively, blessed with bell-clear varietal fruit flavour, blossomy, tannic and sure. Woodsmoke and oranges, red cherry and woodsy spice, mint and meat. It feels dry and tight but there’s enough here to suggest generosity; this release feels more eager to please than usual, and yet it still feels tight, and the lines of acidity are perfectly threaded. In short, if ever there was a no-brainer Hoddles Creek pinot release, this one is it." - 94 Points, Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front
