A Great New-Instore Selection

A Great New-Instore Selection

Published by The Wine Emporium on 17th Aug 2022

It's been a while since our last new in-store update, so we've put together what we think is a fantastic list of some of our favourite drops that have arrived in recent weeks - including the 99 point Leeuwin Estate Art Series Cabernet release, a 2012 cellar release chardonnay from Dog Point, and two Super Tuscan blends at value we don't see often anymore. Have a browse and see what catches your eye!

2019 Toolangi Chardonnay - $23 per bottle ; $26 RRP

"Excellent intensity of flavour here. Crushed fennel, grapefruit, stone fruit and cedarwood. The impact of the fruit here is significant. It feels dry and quartz-like through the finish, and perhaps a touch warm, but if essence-of-chardonnay sounds good to you, then this is a wine you should investigate." - Campbell Mattinson, Wine Front, 93 Points

2018 Poggo Al Tufo Rompicollo Sangiovese Cabernet - $24 per bottle ; $28 RRP

This Tuscan “Super Value” is a blend of 60% Sangiovese and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon and comes from a single-vineyard site in the Alta Maremma called Rompicollo.

"Ripe and plummy with a pleasant red-licorice note on the nose. Medium-bodied with a silky, spicy fruit core that pushes and pushes through the long finish, thanks to some citrusy acidity. The fine tannins play a good, supporting role. A delicious blend of sangiovese and cabernet sauvignon. " - 92 points, James Suckling

2020 La Ficelle Saint Pourcain Gamay Pinot Noir - $25 per bottle ; $29 RRP

"A light to medium-bodied silky Gamay/Pinot Noir blend, with marvelously tasty notes of cherry, raspberry, and some gentle savoury grippy tannins to finish. Great chilled or as is, this is just about the most perfect enjoyable picnic or barbeque red around - truly one of the easiest drinking drops we know!" – TWE

2019 Querciabella Mongrana Blend - $32 per bottle ; $37 RRP

// 50% Sangiovese, 25% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon

"The 2019 Mongrana is Querciabella's Sangiovese-based red blend from the Tuscan coast. Fresh berry fruit, spice and floral notes give this mid-weight red lovely vibrancy and energy. Aging in cement keeps the flavors lively. This charming coastal red has a ton to offer. And its a fabulous value." - Antonio Galloni, Vinous

"This is soft and juicy with a lovely, velvety texture and plenty of berry and currant flavors. Hints of chocolate, too. It’s medium-to full-bodied with serious structure and a flavorful finish. Sangiovese, cabernet sauvignon and merlot. From organically grown grapes. Vegan. Drink from 2023." - 94 Points, James Suckling

2020 Fratelli Barale Langhe Nebbiolo - $52 per bottle ; $59 RRP

"The Barale 2020 Nebbiolo is a gorgeous, contemporary-styled Langhe Nebbiolo of purity, balance and substance. The wines' aromatic lift and fruit purity is very appealing, offset by fine acidity and modest talcy tannins." - TWE

"As easy on the senses that you could ever imagine a Nebbiolo can be. Fragrant and juicy, cherry (almost liqueur notes) with peppery and earthy edges. Fine powdery tannins, fine acidity, excellent length. So drinkable. Great value." - 95 Points, Tony Love, WinePilot

2012 Dog Point Chardonnay - $55 per bottle ; $62 RRP

*Very Limited*

Every year, Dog Point do a cellar release of their 10-year-old wines - this 2012 maintains a superb freshness with many layers of fruit from bottle-age - TWE (recently tasted)

"Lifted aromas of grapefruit, fresh lime and a degree of minerality combine with notes of roasted hazelnuts and toasty yeast characters derived from eighteen months evolution in French oak barrels. The finely structured palate has a chalky textural complexity, as a result of an indigenous ferment and yeast lees contact, complimented by intense citrus and fig flavors." - Winemaker

"The 2012 Chardonnay exudes gorgeous pineapple, green mango and white peach notes with underlying hints of honeyed toast, cashews and cedar. Medium to full-bodied, it is densely packed with tropical and stone fruit flavors complimented with honey-nut nuances, refreshing acid and a long, toasty finish." - 92+ Points, Wine Advocate

2018 Leeuwin Estate Art Series Cabernet Sauvignon - $79 per bottle ; $89 RRP

“The foundation vineyard of Leeuwin Estate Art Series Cabernet is the 1975-planted Block 8. "The vineyard is meticulously managed to promote the development of high intensity fruit and fine classical grainy tannins. Although the growing season and maritime climate are similar to Bordeaux, the atmospheric conditions, lateritic soils, Karri forests and bush-garrigue bring a very different and highly particular set of challenges. The region also has an astonishing diversity of bird life which presents difficulties. Most vineyards are nowadays netted after veraison to stave off the squadrons of Australian ringneck 28ers (Twenty Eight Parrots). Deep crimson. Classical blackcurrant cedar aromas with lifted espresso, roasted chestnut notes. Inky deep and beautifully concentrated wine with dense blackcurrant, dark plum, dark chocolate flavours, fine grainy/chocolaty tannins and perfectly integrated cedar oak. A superb grainy firm finish and mineral length. A great Leeuwin Estate Cabernet. Drink now to 2040”. - 99 Points, Andrew Caillard MW, The Vintage Journal

2019 Fontodi Chianti Classico - $82 per bottle ; $92 RRP

"The 2019 Chianti Classico is fresh, vibrant and so expressive. Aromatic and expansive, with terrific nuance, the 2019 is one of the most elegant Chianti Classicos I have tasted at Fontodi. Crushed flowers, red/purplish fruit, spice, lavender and pipe tobacco build into the delineated, vibrant finish." - 93+ points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous

2011 Produttori del Barbaresco Muncagota - $130 per bottle ; $150 RRP

"Resting just beside the famed Asili Cru of Barbaresco, Muncagota enjoys a more modest south-east exposition as compared with Rabaja. Tasted recently, this 2011 Barbaresco is still on the side of youth, showing enhanced complexity and silky, integrated tannins. A cracking buy." - TWE

"All about finesse, elegance and a silky texture. Cherry, eucalyptus, licorice and spice flavors permeate the vibrant frame. The balance suggests you could enjoy this now, but there is a firm underlying structure. The terrific finish echoes the fruit and ups the ante with a chalky, minerally vein. Best from 2018 through 2032." - 95 Points, Wine Spectator

2018 Pierro Vintage Reserve Chardonnay - $139 per bottle ; $159 RRP

"A limited release of our best 10 barrels of chardonnay. Aged for 3 years prior to release" - Winemaker

"This is a thundering wine of booming power and length. It is characteristic of the 2018 vintage of course, but few people were able to extract this reverberating density of flavour. It is long. It is nuanced. It is not restrained. It is awesome. For all of the complexity and beauty of Pierro Chardonnay, it appears positively fine boned and delicate when tried alongside this VR. The length here is a tour de force ... it spools flavour, endlessly. It stains the mouth with it." - 98 Points, Erin Larkin, Halliday Wine Companion
