A Selection of Some New Favourites!

Published by The Wine Emporium on 31st Mar 2023

It's been a little while, so we thought we'd touch base about some of our favourite new great value drops that have arrived in the shop in recent weeks! It's organised by grape variety, including two picks each for Rosé, Riesling, Chardonnay and two delicious red blends from Tuscany! All come warmly recommended by our staff, and all will be on special for the next week!

2022 Bulman Grenache Rosé - $25 on special ; $29 RRP

"Pale, slightly funky edge, fennel, redcurrant, pomegranate, tangerine. It’s light, chalky in texture, bright acidity, a distinct blood orange/tangerine sort of flavour, kind of juicy but really quite tight. I love the dry crunch of tannin on its long finish. It’s a textbook rosé, Provence meets Barossa, and kind of intellectual in a way, though not at the expense of supreme drinkability. It’s outstanding." - 95 Points, Gary Walsh, The Wine Front

2022 Terra Sancta Central Otago Rosé - $30 on special ; $34 RRP

"The only Rosé in New Zealand rated a “Super Classic” by wine writer Michael Cooper, the superb quality of fruit sourced from Terra Sancta’s Felton Road Estate in Bannockburn, Central Otago and intentional winemaking result in an outstanding Rosé. With hallmark bright berry flavours, balance, energy, depth and a dry finish, this is a serious Rosé which is seriously delicious." - Winemaker Notes

"Silken-textured rosé with raspberry, cherry/berry and savoury flavours that are subtle and lengthy. A backbone of tangy acidity and fine tannins promote a crisp and refreshingly dry finish. Serious rosé and a good food wine." - 95 Points, Bob Campbell MW, The Real Review

2022 Singlefile Great Southern Riesling - $24 on special ; $27 RRP

// 98 points - Best Wine of the 2022 Canberra International Riesling Challenge

// Best Dry Riesling (International), Best Riesling in Australia, 21st Canberra International Riesling Challenge, Oct 2022

"The colour is light with a green tinge, the aromatics display classic Great Southern riesling characters of apple blossom, citrus and lime tones. The palate shows a dry styled riesling with subtle mineral undertones and a tight acid-driven crisp finish. The lees work adds a softly textured mouthfeel ensuring this wine is well suited to foods such as seafoods. It is anticipated in time this wine will evolve to display a stone-line minerality and poached citrus richness, while retaining its linear acidity." - Winemaker Notes

2022 Mac Forbes Yarra Valley Strathbogie Riesling - $29 on special ; $33 RRP

"This Strathbogie Riesling (previously ‘Spring’) is always a little more generosity and weight with structure building in all directions. Pink Quartz soils provide the profile and always show greater opulence than those wines from the granite soils of Caveat. Lemonade fruit aromas with green apple, crushed stones, green apricot and notes of jasmine on the nose. Dry with a little opulence (3.6gm), medium - body with lemonade fruit and white grapefruit pith. Zippy but soft on the palate, fine high acid, citrus driven. A finer, more tuned Strathbogie, long and seductive" - Winemaker Notes

2021 Denton Yarra Valley Shed Chardonnay - $25 on special ; $29 RRP

"Sourced from the bottom section of the North Eastern slope of the Denton View Hill. Whole bunch pressed and wild fermented and matured in a mix of stainless steel tank and old French oak. Wild malo-lactic fermentation (100%). Left on full lees with occasional stirring for 6 months. Bottled without fining or filtration." - Winemaker Notes

2020 Palliser Estate Martinborough Chardonnay - $38 on special ; $43 RRP

"Pale lemon, clear and bright. Aromas of freshly baked tarte tatin, citrus blossom, nectarine, vanilla pod, nougat and hazelnut. Rounded and creamy on the palate with a nutty, biscuity core, the wine is rich, dense and opulent. Peaches and oatmeal biscuits describe the mid-palate, the densely packed palate yielding layers of complexity with time in the glass. Long, lush and superbly concentrated, the wine has a lacy, gentle acidity that delivers a long, fresh finish." - Winemaker Notes "Restrained nose displaying aromas of ripe peach fruit with a creamy edge and smoky undertones. Quite rich on the palate, full body with expansive ripe fruit." - 95 Points, Decanter World Wide Awards // Gold Award

2020 Querciabella Mongrana Toscana Blend - $33 on special ; $38 RRP

// 50% Sangiovese, 25% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon

"Like the untamed nature of Maremma, Mongrana is vibrant and intense, a charming red wine to drink on its own, or pair easily with a variety of flavours. The charm of Mongrana does not take long to reveal. Well-defined aromas of ripe fruit, morello cherry especially, anticipate notes of kirsch, ivy, pine needles. Juicy, fresh sip, with soft tannins. The long finale is savoury with mineral, iron notes that persist in the mouth." - Winemaker Notes

"Raspberries, currants, mulberries, orange zest and lemon leaves on the nose. Medium-bodied with lightly chewy tannins and bright acidity. Wild and savory with a delicious, crunchy finish. From organically grown grapes." - 93 Points, JamesSuckling.com

2020 Argiano NC Toscano Rosso$34 on special ; $39 RRP

// Blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Sangiovese

"Fresh and versatile, Non Confunditur is generous, rich in aromas and with a defined structure. Unique. Fruity notes with a touch of oak. Medium-bodied, savory mouthfeel with characteristic red fruits and underbrush notes. Quite persistent with a nice freshness that marries well with medium tannin." - Winemaker Notes

"Blackberry with some asphalt and black-cherry aromas follow through to a medium body with firm, polished tannins and a crisp and clean finish. Cabernet sauvignon, syrah, merlot and a splash of sangiovese. Drink or hold." - 92 Points, JamesSuckling.com
