The 2020 Bordeaux En-Primeur campaign launched during the height of the global COVID uncertainty - this resulted in startling low pricing, and those savvy enough to buy during those price lows were richly-rewarded! We were hugely optimistic on the vintage (which turned out to be a great one) and have brought a healthy amount on board with great confidence. With many of Bordeaux's most treasured and celebrated names at historically cheap prices, we thought what would be better than one big email listing all the new arrivals, and a cracking weekend tasting to back it all up!
So join us this Saturday (20th July) from 12 to 2pm, as we open up a lineup of many top examples coming from the most important regions in Bordeaux - including Haut-Médoc, St Estephe, Pauillac, St Julien, Margaux, Pomerol and St Emilion. Luke Fitzpatrick from Negotiants Australia will be in to host, and provide you with all the info!
And if you are a big Bordeaux fan but can't make it in, all the following wines will on discount until the end of next week, so be sure to take a look below and see what interests (Any and all Bordeaux wines on our website will discount automatically once added to the cart)
- Praise for the 2020 Bordeaux vintage -
"Comparatively, the 2020s offer a combination of the 2005 and 2016 vintages in terms of structure and refinement – more elegant and fresh than the ripe and opulent 2018s, and more focused but less immediately charming than the 2019s. It’s a trio of vintages offering something for every Bordeaux lover.” - Decanter
"Two thousand-twenty is an incredibly exciting vintage for Bordeaux. After having tasted more than 800 wines for this report, my conclusion is that 2020 is by far the most consistent of the three vintages in Bordeaux’s so-called trilogy spanning 2018 through 2020. It is a year brimming with phenomenal wines at all levels, from the big names down to bottles the average consumer can still afford to purchase by the case… in the end, 2020 has turned out to be an exceptional vintage.” - Antonio Galloni, Vinous

What's on Tasting:
Chateau Senejac Haut-Médoc 2019 - $53 on special this week; $60 RRP
// 51% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 11% Cabernet Franc, 8% Petit Verdot
"The 2019 Sénéjac is a complex, beguiling Haut-Médoc. Sweet pipe tobacco, cedar, mint, licorice, dried herbs, menthol, dried flowers and mint are some of the many aromas and flavors that lift from the glass. Sénéjac offers unreal complexity and tons of energy that continues to build through to a long, beautifully persistent finish laced with expressive savory top notes." - Antonio Galloni, Vinous
Chateau Mauvesin Barton Moulis en Medoc 2020 - $52 on special this week; $59 RRP
"Melanie Barton has now been in charge at Mauvesin-Barton for 10 years, and there is a real feeling of the wine having found its voice - a gentle, fruit-forward Moulis with finesse if not a huge amount of power. Delicate with vibrancy, plenty of blackberry fruits with well-defined but soft tannins, they have really done a great job in the vintage, a value pick and I can't remember tasting a better example of this wine during en primeur." - 92 Points, Jane Anson, Decanter
Phélan Ségur St Estephe 2020 - $125 on special this week; $145 RRP
// 54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 42% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc, 2% Petit Verdot
"Clean and compelling, quite richly textured with bright black fruits but also savoury touches. This is brooding and you can feel the power and the concentration of the vintage. Ripe tannins remain prominent with spiced edges giving tension and linearity throughout. Forward, intense but detailed, nuanced and seductive. Feels well worked, salty and tangy. Give it time but this will have fans. So sleek and well controlled with bite. Lovely." -94 Points, Georgina Hindle, Decanter
"The 2020 Phélan Ségur is powerful yet elegant, with so much to offer. There's terrific depth to the 2020, right from the start. Succulent dark cherry, leather, espresso, dried herbs, incense and spice infuse the 2020 with remarkable depth. Even with all of its obvious power, the 2020 has an element of sweetness in the tannin that is so alluring." - 93 Points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous
Grand-Puy-Lacoste Pauillac 2020 - $210 on special this week; $240 RRP
// 76% Cabernet Sauvignon and 24% Merlot
"The 2020 Grand-Puy-Lacoste is every bit as captivating from bottle as it was from barrel. Rich and explosive to the core, the 2020 possesses tremendous energy and nuance right out of the gate. Bright acids run through a core of ripe red plum fruit, blood orange, cedar and pipe tobacco. The 2020 is an absolute stunner." - 96 Points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous
"The 2020 Grand-Puy-Lacoste is excellent, offering up aromas of cassis and plums mingled with pencil shavings, violets and loamy soil framed by a touch of creamy new oak. Medium to full-bodied, pure and fleshy, with lively acids, powdery tannins and good depth at the core, its supple, charming style belies considerable aging potential." - 94+ Points, William Kelley, Wine Advocate
Léoville-Barton St Julien 2020 - $245 on special this week; $280 RRP
"The flagship from this great chateau, the 2020 Chateau Leoville Barton checks in as 85.5% Cabernet Sauvignon and 14.5% Merlot that saw 60% new French oak. It has fabulous aromatics of creme de cassis, graphite, liquid violets, spring flowers, and background oak. Full-bodied and concentrated on the palate, its purity of fruit is just about off the chart, it has a great mid-palate, and enough tannins to warrant 7-8 years of bottle age. This is another sensational wine from this team that will have 30-40 years of overall longevity. Best After 2030." - 97 Points, Jeb Dunnuck
Chateau d'Issan Margaux 2020 - $170 on special this week; $195 RRP
// 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 39% Merlot and 3% Cabernet Franc
"This is a sinewy, powerful and forward-moving wine with a sense of momentum. Moreish, with the elegance and plump damson fruits that Issan delivers so well, but more muscular than some years with the impact of both Petit Verdot and Malbec that are in the blend for the first time in this vintage. These add layers of spice and the overall architecture is clear. Peony and violet notes add a kick upwards on the finish, this has a delicacy even though it is intense." - 96 Points, Jane Anson, Decanter
"The 2020 d'Issan is a gorgeous, wonderfully complete wine. Blueberry, sage, dried herbs, menthol, lavender and licorice are all beautifully knit together. Medium in body, with notable depth and freshness, Issan is all class. Silky tannins round out the long, vibrant finish. The 2020 d'Issan is the first vintage that incorporates Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec to complement the traditional Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot in the blend." - 95 Points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous
Château Bourgneuf Pomerol 2020 - $125 on special this week; $145 RRP
// 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc
"The Château Bourgneuf vineyard, contiguous to Trotanoy, is situated on the slope of the Pomerol plateau. Its geographical location allows for a maximum of sunlight. This privileged location, together with the nature of its soil, represents essential factors in its quality. Although the slopes are gentle ones, one may consider that the Bourgneuf vineyard is situated on a slope with a South-East/North-West axis. This association of gravel on clay and pure clay confers upon our wines their complexity, finesse and strength. On the soils of Pomerol, the Merlot finds the perfect conditions for its fullest expression." - Winemaker Notes
"The 2020 Bourgneuf is another terrific wine from the Vayron family. Rich and quite deep, Bourgneuf is a heady Pomerol in 2020, but never abandons its essential classicism. Sumptuous dark-fleshed fruit, spice, chocolate and dried flowers are all dialed up. Readers who have known Bourgneuf for years may find the 2020 a bit over the top. I am really interested to see where this direction goes." - 94 Points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous
Bélair Monange St Emilion 2020 - $410 on special this week; $470 RRP
// 98% Merlot and 2% Cabernet Franc
"Intense aromas of wet earth, limestone cellars and dark fruits such as currants and blackberries. Then turns to flowers. Black truffles, too. Licorice. Gravel. Full-bodied with a solid palate of tannins that melt into the wine. It’s sleek and muscular with fantastic length and presence. Reminds me of great old Belairs from the 1950s. Cool wine. Give it six to eight years of time. Best after 2028." - 99 Points, James Suckling
"The 2020 Bélair-Monange is tremendous. What a wine. It is easily the best effort since the Mouiex family bought the property. Rich, ample and dramatic, Bélair-Monange saturates the palate with waves of inky dark red fruit. Sweet floral, espresso and spice notes appear later, adding shades of nuance. Clean mineral notes extend the finish effortlessly. A wine of exotic beauty and allure, Bélair-Monange is a real stunner in 2020." - 98 Points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous
