Champagne & Cabernet Dinner at La Lune Wine Co.

Champagne & Cabernet Dinner at La Lune Wine Co.

Published by The Wine Emporium on 20th Aug 2021

Join us and importer David Bone in a Champagne and Cabernet journey that will transport you from France to the Stag's Leap District of the Napa Valley. Paired to the mouth-watering food of La Lune Wine Co, this promises to be a fun evening of discovery. Bonville's inimitable quality and consistency will be on display, and the sensational levels of ripe fruit and intense purity of the tannins coming through in each of Shafer's drops will match beautifully with the night's food - there's a reason they're considered some of California's best cult wines, with the Hillside Cabernet scoring three times 100 points! On top of everything, don't miss out on the unique chance of tasting the 1979 Rivesaltes, a wine of extraordinary flavour and rarity, truly finishing off the evening in style.

THE WINES

Bonville's wines are very elegant and pure Champagnes with minerality – a typical expression of Chardonnay from the Côte des Blancs – but also depth, for a unique expression of elegance and balance. They are aged long enough to become rounder and richer, but never heavy. Wonderful wines, unfortunately only small quantities are available, so this is the perfect opportunity to get acquainted with the estate!

NV Franck Bonville Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru - $95

The flagship cuvée of the estate - fruity, creamy and elegant, this little number is extremely moreish and will be served on arrival to whet your appetite!

2013 Franck Bonville Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru - $129

This is one hell of a wine! Aged for a good five years in the estate's cellar, it is fresh, pure and mineral, but rounded and textured and will be a perfect match to the canapés.

-----------------------------

“One of the Napa’s most prominent and respected wineries, Shafer is a poster boy for remarkable and consistent quality across the board. All of this is the work to date of the brilliant father and son team of (the late) John Shafer and Doug Shafer as well as their long-term winemaker and vineyard manager, Elias Fernandez…….this is a winery that never seems to disappoint.” – Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate

2018 Shafer Red Shoulder Ranch Chardonnay - $139

"Tasted out of bottle, the 2018 Chardonnay Red Shoulder Ranch is beautifully done, with a vibrant yet rich style carrying notes of buttered lemon, orange blossom, white flowers, and toasted bread. With bright acidity, terrific overall balance, and a great finish, this is classic Napa Valley Chardonnay to enjoy over the coming 5-7 years. I wouldn't be surprised to see it keep even longer as well." - 95 Points, Jeb Dunnuck

2018 Shafer TD9 Merlot, Cabernet & Malbec - $169

“Rich and full of dense and spicy dark plum, dried blackberry and mocha flavors. Dark chocolate and smoky notes show on the ripe finish, with dried savory herbal accents. Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec. Drink now through 2023.” - 92 Points, Wine Spectator

2017 Shafer Relentless Shiraz & Petite Sirah - $249

"The 2017 Relentless is a bold, flamboyant wine that seems to have put on even more density over the last year, hard as that may seem to believe. Black cherry, licorice, spice, leather and menthol are all amped up in this decidedly opulent, full-throttle Syrah-based wine." - 93 Points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous

2018 Shafer One Point Five Cabernet Sauvignon - $265

“This is a muscular wine with a velvety backdrop, classic for the vintage and appellation. Silky tannins glide across a foundation of turned earth, crushed rock, clove and tobacco, the wine hugely structured and grand. Dark plum, cherry and mocha flavours round out the profile; cellaring is a good idea, enjoy best from 2028 through 2035." - 97 Points, Wine Enthusiast

2016 Shafer Hillside Select Cabernet Sauvignon - $599

**We will be opening two bottles of this wine, so there will be plenty for everyone!

"Very deep, vibrant purple-black colored, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Hillside Select strides confidently out of the glass with expressive notions of blueberry preserves, Black Forest cake, cassis and cedar chest with touches of pencil lead, licorice, violets and sandalwood plus a an exotic waft of Indian spices. The rich, densely packed, full-bodied palate is at once thrillingly hedonic and perfectly poised, featuring a rock-solid frame of firm, exquisitely ripe tannins and tons of freshness, finishing epically long and with stunning opulence. Bravo!" - 100 Points, Lisa Perrotti-Brown, The Wine Advocate

"The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Hillside Select is a wine of extraordinary beauty. The purity of the flavors is simply striking, but what really stands out is the wine's mind-blowing balance and total sense of harmony. An exotic mélange of inky blue/purplish fruit, spice, new leather, lavender and licorice build as this sumptuous, dazzling Cabernet Sauvignon shows off its alluring personality. In a word: magnificent!" - 100 Points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous

//100 Points, Jeb Dunnuck

-----------------------------

1979 Domaine de la Viguerie Rivesaltes - Priceless!

"Bright greenish tawny. Hint of treacle and lots of life. Lively and not too sweet. Great balance. Transparent. Finesse. Drink 2017-2030" - 18 Points, Jancis Robinson
