A great piece of Burgundian value greets the midweek; one you mightn't find on too many other shelves around Australia, as we've bought the final bottles available around the country - such is our belief in its abilities!
Before we dive too deep into that, we're excited to say Tasmanian legends Stefano Lubiana will be gracing our tasting table once again come tomorrow night (Thursday 6th), with their head winemaker Steve Lubiana showing off eight of their latest Pinot, Chardonnay and acclaimed sparkling efforts! Come join in between 4:30 and 6:30pm, as he'll be standing ready to pour the pairings of Primavera and Estate Chardonnay and Pinot, his crispy Brut NV and vintage 2013 Grande Vintage sparkling (11 years of lees aging), 'Il Giardino' single vineyard Pinot, and one of Australia's finest examples of Sauvignon Blanc - racy, textural and very much fumé inspired! We hope you can join in - all his wines are on special for the coming week.
In the grander story of Burgundy and its often overwhelming output, the wines of Louis Jadot have continued to represent both fine quality with terrific value throughout their long history. Since Frederic Barnier took full control as technical director in 2014, however, many have noticed incremental changes to their winemaking, which we feel has brought them a significant step forward in appeal, approachability and their sense of overall polish. No more is this evident than with this week's special - their Meursault from the 2023 vintage.
2023 was a warm year with healthy yields, resulting in wines that are generous, expressive and relatively open for their youthful ilk. When it comes to Meursault, whereas much of white Burgundy glides and glistens with acidic zest, Meursault always dips and dives into richness and roundness - often viewed as the region's 'creamiest' and most opulent village. That follows suit with this marvelously priced Jadot, sourced from many different plots from around Meursault. It brings the classic heft of 'beurre et noisettes' (butter and hazelnuts), wafting with some beautiful aromatics and ready to put on the palate even now three years on.
It goes without saying that it is becoming very difficult to find truly great village-classified Burgundy for notable value on the market anymore - this one ticks every box we could ever desire in that illusive category. On special for the next week, and once sold, it's all gone until next year. We urge all interested to fill the fridge or cellar with these '23s before that happens; they are well worth every last bit of attention!

"Sauvignon Blanc vines are grown on soil where fossils were deposited millions of years ago and silt, a by-product of the Derwent River’s flow eroding its western bank over millennia. This soil diversity contributes to the unique elements of the gravelly, sandy, loamy terroir of the plot. Our 2025 Sauvignon Blanc Fumé has aromas of white peach, jazz apple, elderflower and wet slate. These initial impressions on the nose follow through to the palate, along with musk, Granny Smith apple and pomelo grapefruit. Crafted in a fumé style by maturation in aged Austrian foudres and a single large Italian clay cocciopesto amphora, the resulting wine is gentle with tempered acidity. The fruit swells nicely on the palate and that vivid southern acidity provides velocity and a vivid clarity to the wine's travel on the palate.
