From the Super Nanny to their yearly Basket Case release, we always love Nanny Goat's more special releases, and that streak has blissfully continued with this new 2020 inclusion. Aptly named after the alternate vineyard on which it's grown, as opposed to the regular Wanaka vineyard, these Queensberry wines are true interpretations of the beauty from where they're grown, finding a deft balance between the lush palates and bold fruits we've come to expect from the region.
2020 Queensberry SV Chardonnay - $55 per bottle ; RRP $62
Instantly appealing with aromas of orange zest, poached nectarine, hazelnut, sweet baking spice and an intriguing note of wet river stone. The palate is unashamedly rich and mouth filling up front, opening to a taut core of nectarine, pear crumble and toasty oak before a fine bead of acidity draws the palate out to a long textural finish.
2020 Queensberry SV Pinot Noir - $55 per bottle ; RRP $62
The nose is floral and expressively perfumed with rose petal and violets overlaying a lattice of dense mixed berry fruit, Black Doris plum, and toasted brown spice interwoven with an intriguing whole bunch derived herbaceous lift. The palate is taut and powerful with powdery fine tannins up front lending a sinewy elegance. A fine streak of acidity offers a lively backdrop to the red and blue berry fruit core, presenting a wine that is both powerful and dense but beautifully light on its feet.
