South America - Great Picks from Chile & Argentina on Special + Tasting

South America - Great Picks from Chile & Argentina on Special + Tasting

Published by The Wine Emporium on 10th Jul 2025

Two top tastings in the pipeline this weekend, with some of our very favourite South American wine choices and a McLaren Vale icon set to line our table!

Tomorrow (Friday 11th) from 4:30 to 6:30pm, we welcome in the rich and savoury creations from Wirra Wirra! One of McLaren Vale's most unmistakable icons, they have just recently come in for yet more acclaim at the recent Decanter World Wine Awards, with the 2024 12th Man Chardonnay granted the prestigious Best in Show title, standing alongside only one other wine that snagged the same prize on the night; a Grand Cru Chablis! We tried and adored it last week, and thought why not present it alongside a handful of their other expressions for a bit of end-of-week enjoyment - come by and try their Hiding Champion Sauvignon Blanc, 12th Man Chardonnay, Grenache Rosé, Woodhenge and RSW Shiraz choices, and new additions to their 'Church Block' series in a straight Shiraz and Shiraz/Grenache blend.

As for Saturday, we thought it only natural to take a trip a few clicks south after last week's foray through the USA - join us on the 12th between 12 and 12pm, and explore the greatness of South America with us! Chile and Argentina have long stood tall as shining regions of the continent, producing reds and whites of both fine balance and full-bodied bliss. We'll peek through an easy-drinking Sauvignon Blanc and expansive Gran Riserva Chardonnay for the white side of things, before delving into a collection of recent favourites in Malbec and Carmenere!

Emiliana 'Adobe' Sauvignon Blanc 2024 -
$22 on special this week; $25 RRP

// Certified Organic

"Light yellow color, clean and translucent. The wine shows on the nose citric notes of grapefruit and lime with subtle hints of white fruits and delicate herbs. It feels fresh, soft, and balanced on the palate. Serve it with seafood and non-fatty fish prepared with lemon, such as ceviche or others. It is also a good company for sushi and pasta prepared with a seafood sauce or to share ass an aperitif with fresh cheese." - Winemaker Notes

El Porvenir Amauta Absol Malbec 2022 -
$28 on special this week; $32 RRP

"This red wine features an enticing ruby red color and a fragrant aroma of violets and fresh red berries, such as strawberries, raspberries, and cherries. It also includes subtle notes of spices and herbs, all complemented by a clean fruit taste, soft tannins, and a juicy finish." - Winemaker Notes

Santa Rita Medalla Real Gran Riserva Chardonnay 2021 -
$32 on special this week; $36 RRP

"The climate is strongly influenced by the low-lying Coastal Mountains and the Pacific Ocean 28 km away. The frequent morning fogs dissipate at midday, allowing the temperature to rise, although they are moderated by cool maritime breezes. The vineyards are planted over old alluvial terraces Loamy clay soils with a layer of calcium carbonate that makes it more difficult but doesn’t prevent root systems. The wine was aged for 10 months in French oak barrels using in a combination of second, third and fourth-use barrels. Bright and goldish yellow in color. Intense and complex bouquet that combines mineral notes with light citrus, nectarines and flowers. The palate stands out for its refreshing acidity that balances nicely with the wine’s fruitiness, good weight, silky texture, and depth." - Winemaker Notes

Mendel Lunta Malbec 2022 -
$34 on special this week; $39 RRP

"All about perfume and fruit rather than oak. Fresh, scented and enticing, it has violet top notes, bramble, plum and blueberry flavours, supple tannins and an echo of vanilla and cinnamon spices. Enjoy now through to 2027." - 92 Points, Tim Atkin MW

Perez Cruz Limited Edition Carmenere 2022 -
$37 on special this week; $42 RRP

"14 months of aging; 80% first and second use French oak and 20% second use American oak. It shows an intense and deep purple color, with a medium ruby rim, clean and bright. On the nose, it displays an exuberant fruit expression, where notes of ripe fruits such as black plums and blackberries can be appreciated. These aromas are combined with elegant hints of spices such as black pepper, which add intensity and aromatic depth, as well as subtle herbal notes that characterize this variety. On the palate, the wine reminds the fruits felt on the nose, which intensify and create a balanced blend with a marked acidity that helps to boost the tannins, giving a balanced structure to the wine, to finish with a smooth and silky sensation. It has a velvety texture, which contributes to a pleasant, long finish." - Winemaker Notes

Emiliana Coyam 2021 -
$60 on special this week; $69 RRP

// 38% Syrah, 37% Carmenere, 8% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Carignan, 4% Grenache, 4% Mourvedre, 3% Malbec, 2% Petit Verdot, 1% Tempranillo

"Coyam is one of Chile’s finest – and best value-reds. Dominated by Syrah and Carmenère, with the remaining 27% made up of Carignan, Garnacha, Cabernet Sauvignon, Mourvèdre, Petit Verdot, Malbec and Tempranillo, it’s a seamless, beautifully judged amalgam that moves from subtle vanilla and wild herb aromas to a palate of plum, raspberry, black cherry and redcurrant. Great now, but will age beautifully." - 96 Points, Tim Atkin MW

Rutini Coleccion Mendoza Malbec 2022 -
$68 on special this week; $77 RRP

"The 2022 Malbec Colección comes from the Uco Valley and was aged for 12 months primarily in used oak barrels. It presents floral hints alongside notes of plum and cherry, with a balsamic depth. The palate is dry, smooth and fruity, offering a straightforward profile with a lasting delicate texture—a well-balanced 2022 Malbec." - Joaquín Hidalgo, Vinous

Mendel 'Unus' Malbec 2021
$78 on special this week; $89 RRP

// 65% Malbec, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Petit Verdot
"Unus demonstrates the blending skills that Roberto de la Mota learnt in Bordeaux. Youthful, inky, structured and intense, it has coffee bean and wild herb aromas, chewy damson and blackberry fruit and the concentration, backbone and acidity to age. Enjoy now through to 2032." - 94 Points, Tim Atkin MW
