Tua Rita & Tenuta di Biserno - Super Tuscans on Tasting!

Tua Rita & Tenuta di Biserno - Super Tuscans on Tasting!

Published by The Wine Emporium on 30th Aug 2023

Another exciting trio of tastings for you all to enjoy this weekend! Kicking things off on Friday afternoon, we'll have the delicious gins from Gold Coast based Wildflower Distilling, with the passionate Shane 'Ginslinger' Robinson in as host! This will run from 4 to 6pm!

Then Saturday, we have another full-on day planned! At our usual 12 to 2pm slot, we can't wait to show off the beautiful Tuscan elegance of two beloved Italian estates - Tua Rita and Tenuta di Biserno! We just love what vintage 2020 brings to these Tua Ritas; a initially difficult growing season primarily due to the lockdowns, the few years between have been very kind to these drops, showing bright potent palates that balance elegance and power. Tenuta di Biserno bring a slightly different, Bordeaux-inspired approach to their wines, with plenty of Syrah, Merlot and Cabernet Franc making up these complex reds, but remain no less outstanding! Their flagship Bigserno 2020 will be a showstopper, no doubt...

Finally, later that Saturday afternoon from 3 to 5pm, we'll have a very special bespoke rum selection in honour of Father's Day on Sunday! Including a newly-released dark Ron Carúpano that is just arriving in the country for the first time, there'll be plenty to sip and savour, with Adam from the great team at Proof Drinks stepping in as host! We look forward to hearing your favourites from each respective tasting - see you all Friday and Saturday!

2020 Tua Rita Perlato del Bosco Vermentino - $83 on offer ; $95 RRP

"It is made from the vineyards that are closer to the sea. This proximity carries mineral character to the wine respecting the varietal notes. The result is a pleasant, crisp and perfumed wine." - Negotiants

"A pure expression of Vermentino, the Tua Rita 2020 Perlato del Bosco Bianco shows fresh aromas of green apple, white peach, dried sage and crushed stone. Because of the heat of the growing season, fruit for this wine was harvested earlier than normal. Thanks to the age of the vines' root systems and the root stock used, the wine breezed through this more challenging growing season." - 91 Points, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate

2020 Tua Rita Rosso dei Notri - $52 on offer ; $59 RRP

// Blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, and Cabernet Franc

"Rosso dei Notri originated from an advantageous harvest since it was warm during July and August but fresh in September. Tua Rita has always expressed the best during warm vintages in fact 2016 is the proof of how the heat and great thermal excursion between night and day can communicate the true style of Tua Rita. Rosso dei Notri aticipes the other wines through the remarkable structure combined with the rich fruits." - Winemaker Notes

"Wonderful clarity and freshness to this, yet it shows plenty of ripe berries and hints of walnuts and chocolate. Medium body, fine tannins and a savory finish." - 92 Points, JamesSuckling.com

2020 Tua Rita Perlato del Bosco Rosso - $83 on offer ; $95 RRP

"Concentrated, dense, nearly opaque purple in color, Perlato del Bosco delivers tantalizing aromas of blackberries, black cherries, currants, ripe plums, tea leaves, exotic spices, and leather. Rich and full-bodied on the palate, this wine's enticing fruit flavors are accompanied by notes of anise, violets, and peppery spice, all of which are framed by fine-grained tannins." - Winemaker Notes

"This pure sangiovese is fresh and very focused, with lovely fruit, from cherries to peaches. Medium-bodied with well-integrated, fine tannins. Bright, vivid acidity and a creamy finish." - 93 Points, James Suckling

2020 Tua Rita Giusto di Notri - $199 on offer ; $230 RRP

"Deep purple in color, Giusto di Notri offers abundant aromas of blackberry, plum and currants with underpinnings of coriander, violet and a touch of vanilla. Full-bodied, with ripe, fine tannins, and a silky texture, this is a stunning wine with great aging potential. Ideal for barbecued ribs, steaks, grilled meats and medium-aged cheeses." - Winemaker Notes

"Lots of incense to the aromas with sandalwood and lavender. Currants, blackberries. and fresh herbs, too. Full-bodied and very rich, with a powerful, structured mid-palate and a long, long finish. A wine for the future. Needs four to five years to soften. Best after 2026." - 97 Points, James Suckling

Smooth and silky on the palate, yet sustained by an acidic streak that gives us a crisp and persistent finish." - Winemaker Notes

"The 2021 Insoglio del Cinghale is rich with crushed lavender, purple plum, mocha, and black pepper and plush and compelling with its aromatics. Ful-bodied, it is ripe with dark black cherry fruit, turned earth, and a clean lift off the finish. There are well integrated tannins and has a pleasing mineral touch. The former wine director in me would jump on this as a fantastic wine by the glass option, as it casts a large net of appeal and checks a lot of boxes for the price." - 92 Points, Jeb Dunnuck

2021 Tenuta di Biserno 'Il Pino di Biserno' - $112 on offer ; $129 RRP

"A pure expression of the unique terroir of Bibbona. The grapes have a very particular characteristic, giving Il Pino di Biserno an intriguing aroma. A classic example of this style of wine, Il Pino di Biserno is distinguished by its excellent balance and timeless elegance. The alter ego to Biserno, Il Pino shares many of the top wine’s qualities." - Winemaker Notes

"The 2020 Il Pino di Biserno is bold and ripe with creamy blackberry, candied cherry, spice and tarry smoke. There are pressed roses, blood oranges and tea leaves buried deep inside. The tannins are pronounced, but this full-bodied Tuscan red is almost ready to go straight out of the gate." - 94 Points, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate

The resulting wine is remarkable, with a combination of qualities rarely found in a wine: finesse, elegance, complexity, voluptuousness, intensity, length and freshness." - Winemaker Notes

"Very attractive nose with ripe blackcurrants, spiced chocolate, grilled thyme, hazelnuts and bacon. Notes of tobacco and cedar, too. Full-bodied, so refined and polished with layers of finely chiselled tannins spread evenly across the wine and beautifully integrated. Blooming fruit with spicy herbs, peppermint and violets. Very long and persistent with a steady, mineral sensation in the finish." - 98 Points, James Suckling
