Yarra Yering - The New Arrivals are Here & on Tasting!

Published by The Wine Emporium on 3rd Apr 2024

Now here's a real treat savour this coming weekend - we have the wonderful pieces of Yarra Valley magic from the legends at Yarra Yering, featuring the newest releases of Dry Red numbers 1 and 2, on full display at our Saturday (6th) tasting from 12 to 2pm!

Led by the brilliant Sarah Crowe, who in the past has taken home an impressive triple crown of Winemaker of the Year awards from Halliday Wine Companion, The Real Review (incl. Winery of the Year) and Gourmet Traveller, these guys are not only seen as total wine royalty for the Yarra, but adored across the Australian wine scene as a whole - it shows with just how quickly they disappear from shelves every vintage!

We'll be showing four of their beloved reds, including their juicy Light Dry Red (a 50/50 blend of Pinot and Shiraz), the fleshy Underhill Shiraz, and yes, both delicious Dry Reds; No. 1 a brilliant blend of Cabernet, Merlot and Malbec, and No. 2 a driven powerhouse of Shiraz and Viognier. What's more, there's four top value drops from their Warramate range on show too, including a refreshing young Chardonnay expression!

So join us at midday on Saturday, where you'll be greeted by our lovely host, Tim Hampton from Pure Wine Co, handed a glass, and taken through why these Victorian magicians hold the reputation they do! These bottles always sell fast every year, so for any of their keen buyers and collectors, we always recommend getting in early!

Yarra Yering + Warramate - Specials & Tasting Lineup

Saturday 6th April from 12 to 2pm

---

Warramate Chardonnay 2023 - $34 on special; $39 RRP

"Resplendent in stone fruit characteristics, a richly textured and soft palate with a grapefruit freshness. A lovely oak presence in the form of cashew nut toastiness and a honey richness. A long palate with texture from barrel fermentation yet ultimately a refreshing wine." - Winemaker Notes

///

Warramate Pinot Noir 2023 - $34 on special; $39 RRP

"A highly perfumed aroma of violets, the fruit profile of vibrant blue and black cherries, Campari lift with a hint of stalk heightening the spice element sitting in the medium weighted silky characteristic of Pinot Noir. A very refreshing elegant fruit palate the bunch use bringing some stalk tannin and structure, only older oak was used for maturation to highlight the fruit purity. An elegant and intensely perfumed Pinot Noir made to be enjoyed while young and bright. It will continue to evolve for up to 5 years." - Winemaker Notes

///

Warramate Cabernet Merlot Malbec 2021 - $34 on special; $39 RRP

// 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 15% Malbec

"Black mulberries and blueberry fruits with some bramble lift, a medium-bodied classic claret style. The succulent jubey fruit layered palate with some aniseed spice complexity and lovely chalky tannins. There is a brightness to the acid energy that underscores a wine of fruit purity and finesse." - Winemaker Notes

///

Warramate Syrah 2022 - $34 on special; $39 RRP

"Violets and plummy fruits make for a lively, generously fruitful wine entwined with a pink peppercorn spice element. An elegant style reflecting its cool climate origins, its medium bodied weight, a cool undercurrent of blue fruits, the succulent and richly layered palate is supported by some stalk tannin firmness." - Winemaker Notes

///

Yarra Yering Light Dry Red 2023 - $89 on offer

// 50% Pinot Noir & 50% Shiraz

"The 2023 Light Dry Red Pinot Shiraz leads with raspberry pip, red licorice, pink peppercorns, cherries, Earl Grey tea, blood orange and graphite. The wine is routinely so alluring on the nose, with abundant red fruits that veritably burst forth from the glass. On the palate, the wine shows it is far more complex and serious than the buoyant (almost frivolous!) nose would suggest. Chalky tannins support the lacy-fine fruit and carry it out over the long palate. What a superb wine this is." - 95 Points, Erin Larkin, Wine Advocate

///

Yarra Yering Underhill Shiraz 2021 - $139 on offer

"Deep, strong and bright purple-red colour; high-toned white pepper aromas, a whiff of reduction; char, spice and meaty smallgoods aromas. A full-bodied, powerful, soft and fleshy textured wine with ample powdery tannins and a lasting array of cinnamon, nutmeg, clove and pepper characters. Amazing length. A ripping shiraz." - 97 Points, Huon Hooke, The Real Review

///

Yarra Yering Dry Red No. 2 2021 - $139 on offer

//96% Shiraz, 2% Viognier, 1% Marsanne and 1% Mataro

"Deep, bright colour and a marvellous array of spice aromas, the full spice cupboard, infused with some meaty/charcuterie nuances and the overall impression is of stacks of umami. The wine is medium-full bodied and it has intensity and drive without excessive weight, the tannins chiming in with drying grip and sapidity as it drives long on the finish and resonates through its authoritative aftertaste. Superb." - 98 Points, Huon Hooke, The Real Review

///

Yarra Yering Dry Red No. 1 2021 - $159 on offer

// 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 24% Merlot, 11% Malbec and 5% Petit Verdot

"Deep, bright purple-red colour with a bouquet of cassis, mulberry, blackberry and some hints of peat-moss, nori and dried herbs. In the mouth, it’s finely tuned and tensioned, elegantly weighted and structured with intensity and drive, the tannins fine grained and perfectly matched to the flavour. Long, long carry. It drinks superbly now but leave it alone for a few years and watch it grow and build more detail. Very stylish wine." - 98 Points, Huon Hooke, The Real Review
