// 100% Organic Sangiovese
"Our Sangiovese Amphora is a selection of the best Sangiovese clusters in our vineyards, harvested by hand in small crates to keep the fruit intact. Fermented and ripened all winter (6 months) in terracotta amphoras of Impruneta." - Ottomani, Winemaker
"The story of Ottomani (translating to "Eight Hands") is simple: it is that of four friends who grew up together and who, once adults, saw their dream become reality. The winery is located in Strada in Chianti area.
Their farm was born and expanded by recovering old vines and enhancing and preserving local indigenous mass censuses. Working with indigenous varieties and using biological-biodynamic cultivation and vinification techniques, Ottomani decided from the very beginning not to use synthetic antiparrasity or chemical fertilizer, but to work exclusively with “sustainable” agronomic methods for the environment. The importance they attach to the agronomic part is fundamental to the agricultural vision of their estate." - Decanter & Coupe Imports
"As the name says, this one gets raised in amphora, spending three quarter of a year in one. Organic farmed, from Chianti region, all sangiovese in this wine. Interesting producer.
Lots of appealing ripe-sour cherry characters, a distinct tartness lifting the freshness of the wine, anise/liquorice, saline mineral characters, sage leaf herbal notes – palate and bouquet match well in these notes. The texture is hazy, has the rough burr of warm terracotta, tannins chewy and in a web, and, indeed, there’s that amphora-suggestion flavour/texture there too in this wine. It’s pretty delicious, a little wild, distinct. I’m good for it." - 92 Points, Mike Benie, The Wine Front (2019 Vintage)
