"Grandfather Peter Lauer I (1906–1991) used to enjoy a bottle of Riesling every day. It smelled wonderful, tasted dry, but finely balanced with a hint of fruit on the palate. Every year, he chose a cask from Ayler Kupp. He placed particular emphasis on a single wine for all his guests, which appealed to both the dry wine drinker and the lover of fruity wines. As a tribute to this famous “Senior” wine, we vinify a worthy successor every year that grandfather would like to taste." - Peter Lauer, Winemaker
"Lauer ‘Senior’ is Florian’s nod to making a style of wine his grandfather (Peter Lauer Sr.) would enjoy. His aim is to make a feinherb, weeknight wine from 70-year-old, ungrafted vines on the Kupp. The N°6 “Senior” Ayl, as it is referred to on the front label, is a just off-dry wine with 8 g/l of residual sugar, made from fruit harvested from the original Kupp hill on a west-facing section towards Wawern. It offers an impressive and already nicely complex nose of fine herbs, spices, herbal and smoky bacon notes, green pepper, and woodruff. The wine is light yet fresh on the palate, with good intensity and length, and an aftertaste that already tastes dry and very light. This is a very good Senior N°6, to be enjoyed from now through 2034." - Andrew Guard, Importer
"The 2024 Riesling No. 6 Senior was harvested from over 70-year-old vines in the Ayler Kupp. Lauer thinks this is the most moderate-alcohol wine he has made from the site. The nose is still yeasty, with smooth, creamy stone fruit, juicy Reine Claude plum and a touch of candied Angelica, all greenish but mellow. The palate is beautifully precise and bright, carrying its Riesling verve with a disarming smile. Finesse, substance, stoniness and precision come with aroma and grip. The 2024 is wonderful, with a gorgeous lemon streak. (Bone-dry)" - 93 points, Anne Krebiehl MW for Vinous
