Description / Reviews

"Our Butcher's Hill Pinot Noir is a leading expression of Pooley Wines’ commitment to world-class, single-vineyard Tasmanian wine. Born from the steep, north-facing slopes of the historic Richmond site , the vineyard’s unique Dolerite and black vertosols over sandstone soils provide the intense structural foundation that defines this Pinot Noir.

Crafted from hand-picked fruit with meticulous, cool-climate vinification, the wine is aged in French oak. This methodical approach yields a Pinot Noir of rare elegance, with finely boned or velvety tannins and firm acidity that drive the finish. It is a powerful, sophisticated expression of place, designed for both immediate pleasure and long-term cellaring." - Anna Pooley, Winemaker

"Pinot noir from the Butcher's Hill vineyard in Richmond, Coal River Valley. 25% whole bunch, 10 months' maturation in French oak, 35% new. Lifted red and dark cherry, cranberry and dark plum with hints of meadow flowers, cherry clafoutis, crushed rock, cocoa nibs, dried meats, gentle amaro herbs, dried citrus rind and earth. There's a long draw of flavour on the palate with a graceful mineral line, fine, powdered-rock tannins and a real sense of elegance as it slowly fades." - 96 Points, Dave Brookes, Halliday Wine Companion (2024 Vintage)
