Description
"Crafted from a steep, high-altitude parcel in the Bendigo hills of Central Otago, Retrospect is Prophet’s Rock’s most exclusive Pinot Noir—cellared for five years before release to capture its full potential. This rare wine reflects the character of a unique site defined by ancient glacial soils and organic farming. The fruit comes from a single clone planted on a chalk and clay-rich terrace in the Home Vineyard, one of the region’s highest and most dramatic vineyard sites. At 320–390m elevation, the challenging terrain yields naturally low crops of concentrated, expressive fruit. Certified organic since 2018, the vineyard is farmed with precision to reflect the purity of place. 2019 was a warmer-than-average vintage, bringing a lighter touch to the structure while preserving Retrospect’s hallmark tension and depth. The nose opens with rose petal, wild red berries, and black cherry, layered with subtle spice and a mineral edge. On the palate, it’s silky and poised—fine tannins and bright acidity leading to a long, harmonious finish." - Franc About Wine (Importer) Notes
"Incredibly pure and powerful with aromas of dark cherries, cedar, potpourri, terra cotta and lead pencil. The seamless palate has ultrafine tannins and focused acidity, giving complex notes of damson plums, chalk, dried herbs, flint and wet bark. Held back for five years before release. Truly exceptional. Drink or hold." - 98 pts, James Suckling
